People who don't want to interact with kids turn their porch lights off, they don't concoct elaborate and expensive ways to punish them.

I guess this is just too good an urban legend for people to let it go.

And while I’m at it, if you’re having a communal meal and people are being assigned dishes, or they’re signing up for things to bring, that is NOT potluck. “Potluck” means everyone brings a pot and what you get is just luck. If you happen to have 5 desserts and no main dish, that’s part of the fun.

They are completely failing to grasp that what people are starved for is *leadership*. People can be convinced to change their minds about issues fairly easily, if someone just firmly says "This is what we're doing now, let's go". The republicans, unfortunately, understand it all too well.

HEB also has a meal deal right now where for $12 you get a large frozen lasagna, salad, green beans, pepsi, and 6 breadsticks.

I can see how it might be a difficult thing to film, as there is a lot of “thought exposition” if I recall correctly. On the other hand, a lot of the imagery is really horrifying.

I think most of them just don’t know there’s a better way. They’ve bought the exceptionalism myth hook, line, and sinker. Certainly a lot of people of my generation (younger boomer, or older whatever the next one is) are still believing in it.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

I made my children do this, but they did it happily. It made them think about giving instead of just what they could get.

This is a good and sadly necessary thread.

Got buried in the news this weekend, but President Jesus said the F word on CNN at like 2pm in the afternoon. The next day he posted a poop-filled scat video, but tell Me more about the dignity of the office of the presidency.

My cats come and yell at me if I sing around the house, but I never know why. Are they joining in? Do they want me to stop? Are they concerned for my physical and/or mental health? It’s such a mystery!
