I've heard that the reason we use different words for meats and the animals they come from is that the saxon farmers knew the animals when they were alive (so e.g. cow is from Saxon) but the Norman upper class only knew it as meat on a plate so we use, e.g., beef which is from French.

I always thought the words with Latin root came from the Norman conquest rather than just interacting with France

I was really hoping Bluesky could be like Twitter but without the bots, ads or blueticks. But there does seem to be a lot of people wanting to turn it in to an exclusive place for one side of the American culture war. I hope they don't succeed.
