Father of two, enjoy videogames when I get the time. First home computer was a Sinclair Spectrum. Made it to Élite on the BBC B.

10.10.2025 23:35 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I tried to embrace AI earlier, as I told @darkbluemonkey.bsky.social, to get a list of CPUs that would fit a Poweredge R570(?). I'm an hour down now, and I don't have reliable data.
I told my boss, who proudly presented a list he'd had Copilot produce in two minutes. It was the same dogshit...
Agreed, but on the other hand, stay the fuck out of Scotland!!
09.10.2025 21:32 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Although my work laptop these days is a Dell XPS, and I rather like it, despite the need to plug in a USB dock to do anything!
09.10.2025 06:37 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0An old boss was very unhappy if he didn't have the shiniest laptop in any meeting, until I got him an IBM T42. Face like thunder.
About 4 months later, he finally admitted it was the best laptop he'd had. I think that fits all your criteria.
Mate of mine used to always get excited about NASA announcements. He'd tune in religiously, and watch them all.
It'll be life. It'll be water.
I kept telling him it'll be a rock. I was always right!

My dad is one for moaning about arts degrees and such. I asked him what his 3 favourite films were, and pointed out that without people doing arts, these things don't get made.
I think that made something move in his head.
It's a fantastic achievement. Well done.
08.10.2025 06:59 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I've said again and again that society has a short memory. Once the people who "were there" have died off, any lessons learned become diluted.

Weirdly, my neighbour has one up. Yeah...
I had a dream last night where I was using liquid egg in a 3D printer. I could create wonderful shapes in egg, and the print element would cook it.
Off to the patent office with this one!!
From Skye - very nice! Been a while since I had a Talisker.

04.10.2025 21:34 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Curious what the dram is. It's quite pale.
(I was looking at 25yo Rosebank yesterday, and it's remarkably pale, so there are old, pale single malts out there.)
No such thing as a single single malt!
04.10.2025 21:04 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Not bloody staying at the Norbreck!!
I'll be just down the road.
Norbreck? Pretty sure I saw something like that there before...
02.10.2025 19:37 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0You realise they just clone the applicants, right? Then they use the clones until they're spent. That kicks off the second round of interviews.
01.10.2025 20:05 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Hamish the Spaniel looking suspiciously clean.
Hamish has had a bath, and I'm not sure he's very happy about it. But he was stinky.
27.09.2025 16:47 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I had a play with this, back in the day. It was a bit of a novelty, but the PS2 didn't really have enough RAM to make a decent desktop, and you didn't get access to the GPU. 😐

Apparently, something is happening!!

We're away for the weekend, and Hamish wants something to happen. He's been there for several minutes.
20.09.2025 10:51 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I have finally played all the way through Exile after, what, 37 years?
I dunno if the image I was playing works correctly, because I couldn't save (emulator state saves FTW), but I still have my 5.25" original.
It's breathtaking just how much is in Exile, even before the sampled sound in SW RAM!
The Play It Again Sam sets were usually really good games, and 4 in a set was a bargain!
19.09.2025 17:24 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Remarkably, it looks like I have more compassion for the victim than Trump, despite the fact that I think they're both terrible.
Regardless of his views, or how abhorrent i felt they were, Kirk did not deserve to be murdered. Trump brushing this off for a ballroom is disgusting.
What a technology evolution in just one year!
