is it good that everyone i know being made to find a use for AI at work is just having to manage the politics of the fact that they're expected to use it whilst fixing all of its mistakes? it seems to have the same impact on the workplace as a bad intern who's only there cause hes the CEOs son

YOU DO NOT NEED AN ID TO GET A LIBRARY CARD. YOU NEED PROOF OF RESIDENCY. IF ANYONE ELSE SLIDES INTO MY REPLIES TO ARGUE WITH THIS ACTUAL FACT YOU WILL BE BLOCKED ON SIGHT. DO NOT CARRY WATER FOR VOTER SUPPRESSION IN MY MENTIONS.

This is fantastic, and it's something that we've been saying for years.

When companies say that are using "AI for climate change", they are referring to much smaller models used for doing things like climate modeling.

Massive generative AI models are NOT USEFUL for mitigating climate change.

When you say you have fallen in love with A.I., you have fallen in love with a business product. That business product is not here to just teach you how to fall in love and how to develop deeper feelings of love and then how to transmit them and transport them onto other people as a mediator, a transitional object.
Children play with their little stuffed animal and then they bring their learning from that relationship onto humans. The business model is meant to keep you there. Not to have you go elsewhere. It’s not meant to create an encounter with other people.
So, you can tell me about guardrails around the darkest corners of this. But fundamentally, you are in love with a business product whose intentions and incentives are to keep you interacting only with them β€” except they forget everything and you have to reset them.
Then you suddenly realize that they don’t have a shared memory with you, that the shared experience is programmed. Then, of course, you can buy the next subscription and then the memory will be longer. But you are having an intimate relationship with a business product.

Americans, we are living in a time of viciousness.

We are living in a time where speaking the β€œwrong” language or having the β€œwrong” skin color puts you in danger.

Congress must disband ICE and impeach Kristi Noem.

β€˜Bad Guys Are Taking Mommies and Daddies’: ICE Upends Minneapolis Kids' Lives In Minneapolis, parents must figure that out, while teachers face half-empty classrooms as students stay home for fear of abduction.

I talked with parents, teachers and kids about ICE's ongoing operation and how it has upended their day-to-day lives. One of the harder stories I've reported. For @rewirenewsgroup.com

This article is a very good example of why "more training" and "more vetting" isn't the answer. Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez joined Border Patrol in 2018 and 2014 respectively. These aren't new agents. www.propublica.org/article/alex...

Note from the editors:

ProPublica is publishing the names of the two federal immigration agents involved in the fatal shooting of Minnesota protester Alex Pretti. We believe there are few investigations that deserve more sunlight and public scrutiny than this one, in which two masked agents fired 10 shots at Pretti as he lay on the ground after being pepper-sprayed.

The Department of Justice said it is investigating the incident, but the names of the two agents have been withheld from Congress and from state and local law enforcement.

The policy of shielding officers’ identities, particularly after a public shooting, is a stark departure from standard law enforcement protocols, according to lawmakers, state attorneys general and former federal officials. Such secrecy, in our view, deprives the public of the most fundamental tool for accountability.

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

The problem isn’t rhetoric. The problem is state violence against immigrants. Governor Shapiro should focus on stopping ICE’s harm, demanding accountability, and protecting our families - not scrambling to defend an agency that is terrorizing our communities.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!
