is it good that everyone i know being made to find a use for AI at work is just having to manage the politics of the fact that they're expected to use it whilst fixing all of its mistakes? it seems to have the same impact on the workplace as a bad intern who's only there cause hes the CEOs son

This is fantastic, and it's something that we've been saying for years.

When companies say that are using "AI for climate change", they are referring to much smaller models used for doing things like climate modeling.

Massive generative AI models are NOT USEFUL for mitigating climate change.

Good news alert!

When you say you have fallen in love with A.I., you have fallen in love with a business product. That business product is not here to just teach you how to fall in love and how to develop deeper feelings of love and then how to transmit them and transport them onto other people as a mediator, a transitional object. Children play with their little stuffed animal and then they bring their learning from that relationship onto humans. The business model is meant to keep you there. Not to have you go elsewhere. It’s not meant to create an encounter with other people. So, you can tell me about guardrails around the darkest corners of this. But fundamentally, you are in love with a business product whose intentions and incentives are to keep you interacting only with them — except they forget everything and you have to reset them. Then you suddenly realize that they don’t have a shared memory with you, that the shared experience is programmed. Then, of course, you can buy the next subscription and then the memory will be longer. But you are having an intimate relationship with a business product.

The Department of Justice said it is investigating the incident, but the names of the two agents have been withheld from Congress and from state and local law enforcement. I joined my friend Greg and other cartoonists to draw something to welcome Liam Ramos home, but ~3800 children remain in ICE custody, including at least three students from Liam's school (and 25 parents). Join us at #Comics4Liam !

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

The problem isn’t rhetoric. The problem is state violence against immigrants. Governor Shapiro should focus on stopping ICE’s harm, demanding accountability, and protecting our families - not scrambling to defend an agency that is terrorizing our communities.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!
