I broke my leg last month and now he calls 2x/week to check-in.

Every time I have to say:

No, I will not be getting a lawyer to sue myself.

No, I can't visit right now but we'll see how things go after PT.

Yes, I do think it's a good idea he and his wife move into an assisted living facility.

I've had a difficult relationship with my dad for 2 decades. I do not like the man. He moved across the country when I was 10 and made it my responsibility to maintain the relationship. I had to be the one to visit him and any problems we have are my fault.

All this said, I have had two unwavering companions throughout this entire ordeal. For the most part, that cat can fuck off but Angus, my baby boy, has stayed with me, asking for very little beyond constant physical contact.

Truth: While I'm still non-weight-bearing, I'm healing at a remarkable pace. I attended the game last night & my team was so excited to see me. I could feel their joy & relief at seeing me hobble around in good spirits. I was glad to be by the bench, pumping them up between jams, & cheering them on.

I came back to roller derby after a 5Y hiatus, wavering between anxiety and determination, eager to regain a part of who I was and the community I loved prior to COVID ending my team's undefeated season.

My convalescent zone is in the living room. I've got my half of our bed and a small end table for drinks, meds, various hygiene needs, etc. My claw grabber, crutches, work laptop, knitting bag, iPad, and other activity items are also w/in reach.
