Postdoctoral Researcher
University of California, Los Angeles is hiring. Apply now!
Come work with me at UCLA!
Iβm hiring #postdocs to join my lab where weβre building new tools to detect TB drug resistance using fluorescence microscopy.
If youβve got a PhD (or soon will) in microbiology/chemical biology - bonus if youβve worked in BSL3:

First malaria treatment for newborn babies approved for use
Malaria caused 597,000 deaths worldwide in 2023, with children under 5 accounting for 76 percent of all malaria deaths in the World Health Organizationβs Africa region.
A small piece of good news in #publichealth today: in addition to malaria vaccines for kids age 5 month+, we now have malaria TREATMENT for babies!
(Of course, we also have to pay for the treatment & make it accessible. But I will take any joy I can find.)

1/27 We have a new paper out! Turns out that snowflake yeast have been hiding a secret from us - they've evolved a (very!) crude circulatory system. Not with blood vessels or a heart, but through spontaneous fluid flows powered by their metabolism. π§ͺπ¬

Thanks! We can get down to ~ 10 cfu/ul if incubated for 3 doubling times (a bit longer for tb since itβs a slow grower). Still faster than plating for cfu!
