Popping back to Bluesky after a year long social media holiday to say hello. Still plugging away on a documentary about a remarkable and inspiring nonogenarian composer.

I believe they were called box carts in the day.

I want to give a shout out to the many amazing archivists in Canada, the States and Europe who have gone out of their way to help me do research for my documentary. Their knowledge, interest and helpfulness has been indispensable, uplifting and a breath of fresh air in these dark and cynical times.

Have you seen the early Second City skits with O'Hara, Candy, Levy and Short when they were all starting out in Toronto?

We were without power for 10 days after the Montreal ice storm. What surprised me was that it took over a week for the temperature to drop below freezing in the house, even in an uninsulated 1920s duplex. Despite this, we drained the pipes day one, as they are often on exterior walls.

Back in the late 90s, we experienced a century ice storm that knocked out the electrical grid in Montreal for over a week and with it the water treatment plant. To be on the safe side, I'd recommend filling pots, pans and jugs with water if you are at risk of losing power this weekend down south.

Every tragedy needs a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in some form or another.

"Show me the Monet!" must have been going through your mind at the exhibit.

I'm sure Rainer Werner Fassbinder would have had a few words to say about this.

I have to confess I only made it to the 3 hour mark of his 15 hour long Berlin Alexanderplatz which was screened at Le Lux in MontrΓ©al back in the 80s

And your dad was lucky to have you as a son, David. It was so wonderful of you and your wife to welcome him and care for him in his final years in your home.

Fingers crossed, Chris. Keep us posted. Just getting past the computer algorithm vetting job applications is an accomplishment!

There is so much sadism and sociopathic cruelty in the world today, I tend to avoid watching shows with protagonists who revel in the above.

Now, Stranger Things is a different matter. A nerdy bunch of D&D misfits fighting pure evil, I find highly cathartic and entertaining.

I had the exact same reaction to the two series. Breaking Bad turned me off so I turned it off. Better Call Saul was much more fun and quirky.

I see that the TP-7 is a field recorder too. That's handy. Are you planning on doing a podcast down the road?

Looking on the brightside, every CD you bought supported and remunerated the artists you like

What's the make of the MP3 player? Our iPod is hiding somewhere in the house. I know, I should have transferred the files to my phone.

I can relate, Chris.

When you've amassed three decades of CDs, your Compact Disk collection ceases to be all that compact anymore.

Despite the storage issue, I've never been tempted to use Spotify. I like the tangible quality of vinyl and CDs, the album cover designs and sleeve notes too much.

You'll have to let me know your verdict. Like you, I haven't watched either series (or Jaws for that matter). Have you watched The Hour or Slough Horses? They are two of my favourite series in recent memory.

@jameschristopher.bsky.social It's wonderful to reconnect with you, Chris. I look forward to seeing your latest creative works. The music documentary is in the final phase of post production. Work on it was delayed for an extended period, but I'm working on it full time again.

I was hoping for a more nuanced understanding of the popularity of Bluesky from Dorsey.

People are leaving X and Meta for a host of complex reasons and serious concerns, ranging from the unethical monetizing of our personal data, to political interference and lastly our personal safety online.
