This desperation to stay a slave to a corporation is what happens when your society does not have social infrastructure (public health etc etc)…. Can you guys not see how damaging it is to your society when corporations can instil such fear?

Or.... you could just hold elections on the weekend. For those who still can't make it, have wide spread pre-polling available (with a last resort being postal). And. Make voting compulsory (with fines for not doing so),and create a culture of societal obligation to vote. You know, like in Australia

We also have mandatory voting, and elections are on a Saturday, with extensive pre polling prior so people can vote without missing work….

But next election it may be totally different…. I don’t know anyone that says “I’m a Liberal” in Oz.. People may say they “voted Liberal”… I think that may be part of “the issue”in the US, from outside it looks like people think they’ve joined a club! Just seems weird…

So for example; in our Territory (state) election recently I voted “Liberal” (conservative) as the current mob suck (and we need a change), in the upcoming Federal election I’ll likely vote “Labor” (more progressive) in the House of Reps, with a mix of a local Independent and Labor in our Senate.

Yeah I get that…. But I seem to recall John McCain being not a bad bloke, and I understand Democrats were pro slavery… My point is, it’s not a religion… I don’t understand why American brand themselves with a political party rather than voting for the candidate of the day…

I out of sheer curiosity started to read Mein Kampf once, I literally could not get through the first chapter. So much hate and anger.

Can someone in The US explain to me WHY you identify yourself with a political party?Do you never change your mind based on the persons you are voting for based on their policies,demonstrated proof of character etc? I am (obviously) in Oz, and no-one would ever say "I am a <insert political party>".

Interestingly, Australia has a law that allows citizens with DUAL nationality, who have been convicted of certain crimes (such as terrorism) to lose their AU citizenship. Once their have served their penalty, they are then deported to the "other" country.
