Again, we come back to the problem that it's very easy to see election outcomes as products of simple trends. Just run more moderates! Stop talking about climate! This is what consultants sell donors on, easy stories. But election results, aggregated human behavior, is much more complex.

The @nytimes.com decided last year what the story was; Trump II was the righteous punishment visited upon their interns and junior staffers and grandchildren for being so annoying about MeToo and BLM, and once they understood that and repented, they could have democracy back.

My response to the NYT’s “moderate to win” argument: The data shows the strategy is tapped out. Being seen as moderate by voters doesn’t boost votes, replacing every progressive with moderates would net 0 seats, and the graveyard of defeated D incumbents if full of moderates, not progressives.

it is perhaps not a surprise that the commentators most associated with the turn towards data in modern political analysis are those who seem to believe that you can maximin electoral politics, but you can't.
