Executive dysfunction, a conspicuous lack of marketable skills, and a paradoxical ambition to build a better society from the ground up.

the main reason to go after the rich is that if you don’t the entire structure of your society is predicated on the whims of people who are entirely disconnected from ordinary life

billionaires are simply too dangerous to exist, and any budgetary stuff that comes out of it is just a bonus

it is so embarrassing that we can’t get trump on the epstein stuff. After access Hollywood and Miss teen USA and the E Jean Carroll verdict, it’s like we let Jeffrey Dahmer go three times and then found him with a hundred human heads and weβ€˜re standing there like are you SURE these aren’t yours

Is this making the same argument as usual, that akshully, if you tax the wealthy AND NO ONE ELSE, there won't be enough money to pay for everything?

When I was in Norway I saw a man having a mental health episode on the street and was legit confused when I saw seemingly uninvolved Norwegians standing around looking concerned. They were trying to help him. I didn't recognize this basic human decency, because I am an American.

Might've just put my career in jeopardy, but boy does it feel satisfying to yell at an unreliable, shitty client.

It's also an extension of the predominant American impulse re: every issue.

"How DARE you suggest putting a landfill near MY town. No, I won't stop producing my body weight in trash every week."

"My children should be able to play outside. Also, I need a six-lane highway that ends at my driveway."

you ever feel like defenses of Trump from high-minded places like the Washington Post, which would like to be taken seriously while still ardently supporting conservative/reactionary stances, amount to this

In cultural and legal context, how did the criminal conduct of Trump's masked terrorists under ICE, CBP, and "Homeland Security" come to be? For much of its existence as a nation, America has allowed the gradual emergence of a super-empowered class who can carelessly kill mere citizens with impunity

Well you see Trump says they "can't have nuclear." He also sabotaged the agreement that was constraining their nuclear program, which he said was "obliterated" in June. But Tehran is refusing to give away all their uranium, downgrade their missiles and shun their allies in exchange for nothing. So..

Like with using children as bait and eating at a restaurant then kidnapping the people who prepared it, ICE is routinely breaking taboos that have been part of human civilization since before recorded history.

See also: looting. Every time there's a natural disaster, folks come out of the woodwork to insist that anyone smashing windows to run off with high-end electronics is an innocent victim struggling to feed his family. They really seem to think that *all* crime is a reaction to capitalist oppression.

this & other comments i've seen about how bluesky needs to "improve its algorithm" suggest a lot of people have grown to like a totally passive social media experience where a computer pushes an endless stream of content tailored to what it thinks they would like while they clap like seals

Getting nostalgic for the Bush administration's long process of manufacturing consent for war with Iraq after I wake up to read that Donald Trump has just slapped the "Bomb Iran" button that's next to the Diet Coke button in the Oval Office.

So after Trump pardoned Honduras's narco-president, the admin didn't just let him out--they canceled an immigration hold and sent a specialized team to **chauffeur him to the $1k/night Waldorf Astoria.**

One time, my cat scratched me lightly on my foot, just enough to draw a drop of blood, and the resulting infection was so painful it was like walking on a broken leg. I spent a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics, and it's fun to think that just a few generations ago, I would have surely died.

it's vitally important that progressive christian politicians in a pluralistic society be able to acknowledge that the good they are working toward in a coalition is not good *because* it aligns with their christian values, but rather that their values are good because they align with a shared good

This pairs well with my "the internet is a place" philosophy. It's a work in progress, but I find it instructive to think of online and real life as two separate spaces that I can't occupy simultaneously. The more time I spend online, the more I am being *physically separated* from the world.

my sincere advice for anybody who feels like their life is spiralling out of control is to find just one routine part of your life that you can decouple from computer. doesn't even matter what - can be as simple as turning off your phone for an hour while you take a walk.
