When I was in Norway I saw a man having a mental health episode on the street and was legit confused when I saw seemingly uninvolved Norwegians standing around looking concerned. They were trying to help him. I didn't recognize this basic human decency, because I am an American.

This pairs well with my "the internet is a place" philosophy. It's a work in progress, but I find it instructive to think of online and real life as two separate spaces that I can't occupy simultaneously. The more time I spend online, the more I am being *physically separated* from the world.

my sincere advice for anybody who feels like their life is spiralling out of control is to find just one routine part of your life that you can decouple from computer. doesn't even matter what - can be as simple as turning off your phone for an hour while you take a walk.
