The dog ate my homework! The missing pieces of the climate plan - Michael West The recently released 'National Adaption Plan' of how to manage risks and combat climate change is high on rhetoric and short on substance.

"A paperweight not a playbook". What will govt do in response to future climate disasters/costs? @dmacsyd.bsky.social analysis to the National Adaption Plan #NAP

When I read government reports, theyโ€™re often word soups that initially sound well thought out and convincing. But I look for whatโ€™s not there. And I found a lot missing in the National Adaptation Plan, as I relate in my latest for @michaelwestbiz.bsky.social: michaelwest.com.au/the-dog-ate-...

Climate risk report is old news. Australia needs transition ... to reality - Michael West The National Climate Risk Assessment, released this week, has made headlines, but adds little to all the other such reports of recent decades

Hereโ€™s my take on this weekโ€™s national climate risk assessment. Iโ€™ve chosen to take a somewhat different angle from much of the other commentary Iโ€™ve seen. michaelwest.com.au/climate-risk...

NEW STUDY: How much CO2 can we safely store in geological formations?

In a new @nature.com study, we cross-check established academic and industry estimates with various risk factors.

We find a prudent geological CO2 storage limit that is about 10x smaller. /1

Aaaand the Albanese Government has approved its first fossil fuel expansion of the new term.

We're all (legitimately) focussed on genocide, while governments like ours are actively pursuing a policy of omnicide.

How nice to have a stinking parliamentary majority and use it for ecocide.

Carbon Capture fractions. A corporate con-job on the taxpayer dime - Michael West Australiaโ€™s best-known Carbon Capture & Storage plant run by Chevron captures a fraction of the total emissions it generates.

I was curious about what proportion of emissions produced by Chevronโ€™s giant Gorgon gas plant is captured by its $3.5 billion carbon capture and storage system. The answer? About 1% michaelwest.com.au/chevron-carb...

Perhaps itโ€™s a question about the language used. If you talk outcomes instead of methods then donut sounds attractive. Use the wrong language and you might be branded a socialist

Oh, and that 17% doesnโ€™t involve burning any of the gas or coal - itโ€™s purely the emissions involved in getting it out of the ground! And itโ€™s going to be underestimated because we donโ€™t require proper measurement of โ€œfugitiveโ€ emissions from venting and leaks

There are dozens of gas and coal projects licensed to operate beyond 2050. Several indovidual facilities produce millions of tonnes worth of emissions per year on site. Will they be able to reach zero emissions by 2050 without using bogus offsets?

Key Facts About Australian Fossil Fuels When it comes to fossil fuels and climate change, clear and accurate information mattersโ€”especially for parents concerned about their childrenโ€™s future. Decisions based on incomplete facts, assumption...

Did you know 17% of Australiaโ€™s local climate pollution comes from gas extraction and coal mines? With Energy Australia agreeing with the EU that carbon offsets are bogus, yet the Safeguard Mechanism allowing unlimited use, it seems we have a problemโ€ฆ

When do we reach โ€œnet zeroโ€? Not when someoneโ€™s offset spreadsheet claims we have. Actually, itโ€™s when atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases stabilise (stop increasing). Every day we delay take us closer to natural tipping points.

In fact, the top 3 industrial facilities in terms of local carbon pollution are all gas giants. Gorgon, Inpexโ€™s Icthys plant, and Woodsideโ€™s NW shelf. Collectively spewing 4.9% of Australiaโ€™s domestic emissions before any of the gas is burnt.

The biggest industrial climate polluter in terms of its local emissions? That would be Chevronโ€™s Gorgon gas behemoth. You know, the one with the multi billion $ carbon capture and storage plant. Even with it, that one facility produces 2% of Australiaโ€™s domestic emissions! Annoyed? Call your MP!

7,000,000,000+ avoidable deaths.
