Do you think there is a return to “normal” possible? I can’t help but wonder how things can be returned to at least pre-Trump levels of norms, ever again. It just seems that something has changed, and people have become significantly more extreme, with no intention of moderating.

It would be useful, but unfortunately they won’t be able to provide the funding that the US government used to provide, so it will never be as capable. It’s mind-boggling why Trump’s admin would think gutting the CDC is a good idea.

It’s all about machismo. That’s his appeal. Men who want to be like him, or that type of guy. I don’t get it either, but we aren’t those kind of men. I don’t think the whole machismo thing is what makes a real man.

I don’t think this was the right move by her, or for any politician. It doesn’t get anyone to take the message any more seriously. It just makes it easier for people to label one as unserious and crass.

I don’t want to be that person, judging people’s choices, but it just occurred to me that if one really wants to hurt MAGA, one should just ban cosmetic surgery. Just putting it out there. Kristi Noem for example……🤷‍♂️

Yeah I’m very disappointed at the response from influential people. I understand the fear (if that’s why they’re hesitant) but they have the most ability to lead. I guess this is where a relatively unknown individual has to stand up and lead, and get people to stand up

Yup. Also large protests outside the law firms that bend the knee, and boycott the companies that retain/use said law-firms. It’s the most effective way to show companies that their actions matter

Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but this is video of Rumeysa Ozturk's arrest posted by WCVB. It's terrifying.

I think that many politicians still believe that the system hasn’t changed. They’re playing by the same old rules, not wanting to be seen as disruptive. The system has in my opinion changed though. However I’m not an expert on this

I agree. I still believe marches and demonstrations need to be peaceful, and everyone in them needs to be extremely careful to keep them peaceful. I think if they devolve it will just help the Trump admin’s messaging. We need people also boycotting companies that bend the knee/work with the admin

27.03.2025 19:32 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Unfortunately they’re correct. Their supporters are showing that they indeed will simply believe whatever they’re told to

27.03.2025 19:19 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Yup, and people being sent to these places without due-process. It’s insane

27.03.2025 19:18 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

…get celebrities there. We need groups of around 10 or more intervening peacefully to ask for badges, names, and proof the individuals are law-enforcement.

The response has been surprisingly tepid, in my opinion. My big concern isn’t so much that ICE is doing these arrests. I don’t like it, but at least we have some methods to stop that. I’m concerned these are randoms with fake badges and masks. Either way, for the arrests we can’t obviously…

To do this one needs many people to do it across the country. If just a few do it, it’s too easy to send them off to the same jails without due-process. The admin relies on this fear stopping people. They can’t do that if hundreds/thousands are doing it every time

They’re around 25 years old though. On the one hand everyone on the right wants to say that 19 year olds were fighting wars and are capable, but then wants to say these guys are just kids who don’t know consequences. They know enough, they believe the crazy stuff though.

Welcome to politics. Like I said, most support Israel. In my opinion that is entirely ok, in and of itself. There are differences between what that support means though. Liberals usually want a two-state solution, and restraint to be shown.

08.02.2025 11:54 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Well I would call it complicated. There is support for Israel, but a fairly big divide in terms of how that support looks. The liberals generally want a two-state solution, whilst the conservatives *generally* don’t, or don’t care. That makes it complex.

08.02.2025 11:42 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yeah that’s a fair point.

There is a need for a better national missile defence system, but that’s entirely separate and different to Iron-Dome.

07.02.2025 13:28 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I hear you, and I guess it might be a possibility. However Patriot can do most of the same functions for rocket interception. Even if we assume that Iron Dome would be better for that, only a few systems would be needed for border areas. There would be no need for the massive nationwide system.

07.02.2025 13:28 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

Not really. The US already has systems which can intercept rockets and missiles. The very short range nature of Iron-Dome, means it would only be useful for rockets launched at cities right on the border. There’s maybe 3 locations that suit this, with corresponding Mexican cities.

It’s because these people want to stay in power. It gives them better access to be able to grift. It’s not entirely unusual within the world, and it’s not too dissimilar to what the Kremlin was like during the Soviet Union.

Unfortunately this is the Silicon Valley issue. Too many want to pursue innovation for innovations sake, without actually understanding why the existing systems were implemented. People who are good in on arena, but completely useless in others, but think they know everything. Used to be the VC bros

They seem to be genuinely shocked. It’s the same as the Latino community that voted for Trump, and are now shocked their people are getting deported. People don’t pay attention, and then only listen to what someone says every 4 years, and vote like sheep on that.

07.02.2025 13:08 — 👍 8    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

They aren’t victims. Anyone who has paid attention knew what would happen.

Voting for Trump, or not voting at all, only allowed the guy who recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, to come straight back in. We’ve seen him before, it was not surprise what he would do. So voting for him, or not voting is stupid.

There is a simple reality. Harris wasn’t perfect, and the US has a complicated relationship with Israel. Thinking that the US would just abandon Israel, and say “we recognise Palestine” is foolish. However Harris, at least had some semblance of a plan for a two-state solution.
