Agreed! As a fellow Class of 1986 member, we still chant "86, 86, 80, 80, 86" at reunions. I thought that was the extent of things though ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I've been fairly emo lately (wonder why???) so my listening may reflect that a bit.
Flumpool have a new album out (Shape the Water) and I can't stop listening. David Sylvian's 1987 Secrets of the Beehive. Gravity Stairs (2024) by Crowded House.

The mental cost is high, unfortunately. Not originally from Oklahoma, but currently working here and it is truly like living in a nightmare.

Metro Library's bingo challenge has offered me a little healing and balance in this "interesting times" month. I set a challenge for myself to read 56 books this year.

So glad you're here! *Love* the Front Desk series even though I'm old ๐Ÿคญ When I came to the States as a young Asian American in the 1970s, I didn't see myself reflected in stories. Thank you!

The Metro Library is holding their winter book bingo and it's been the perfect nudge I needed to read more. Absolutely loving Babel by R.F. Kuang. Some truly lovely prose along with "truth gut-punches." Highly recommend.

Albums that changed my life in no specific order: Thomas Dolby's The Golden Age of Wireless (1988). Despite my disdain for "She Blinded Me with Science", this is a brilliant album. Dolby earned my eternal respect for showcasing the exquisite Yano Akiko on "Radio Silence"

Thankful you said this! Every semester I must explain to my undergrads that some faculty are incredible content experts but that doesn't mean they've taken a single class on how to actually teach. (I also have to remind myself of this when in committees w/faculty & my M.Ed = my voice isn't valued ๐Ÿ˜…)

A lot of academics are also very bad teachers of undergraduates & graduates. They didn't develop the specific skillset of being educators. That's a specific set of skills that isn't automatic with a PhD. They're not really reaching their students, & their students aren't coming away with anything.

Albums that changed my life in no specific order: Parallel Lines (1978) by Blondie. This album is responsible for my lifelong love of libraries - I checked it out of my tiny library again and again.

I may not remember where I left my keys, but I can still sing every line of Sunday Girl.
