That’s an unusual looking alien spacecraft.

Perhaps the risk is being hyped a bit too much for social media but I'm always looking up at windows and doors to see if they are straight or sagging. When I'm walking around Montmartre, there's a lot of sagging!

Even in my modern (1990s) building there are fissures since the Romans mined here.

Good to hear you cleaned the dishwasher filter. Folks often overlook that and wonder why the dishwasher isn’t working properly.

George Will wrote an editorial in the Washington Post praising the career of term limited Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio. Usually reader comments on articles and editorials can be a hot mess. This is one of the most brilliant responses I’ve read.

Screen shot of comment :

"Mr Will craves order, lineage, institutions, and a whiff of the old republic...the republic he's convinced existed in the soft glow before cable news melted everyone's frontal cortex. DeWine fits that bill because he's been around forever and never threw food in a congressional hearing. But that's all romance, not reckoning.

Will skillfully forgets to mention that DeWine has a long record of moral conservatism that veers into people's private lives. He has a willingness to sign Draconian legislation, especially around reproductive rights and a tendency to hide hard-line policies behind the smile of a Midwestern grandpa who still remembers his 4H club. He also has a political survival instinct so strong that he practically shed his moderate skin whenever it suited the shifting winds of Ohio's electorate.

Will glosses all this because DeWine appeals to his deepest craving: a Republican who doesn't behave like a feral raccoon in a dumpster. Will isn't judging DeWine by policy. He's judging him by temperament, by manners, the old fetish of his. If a politician is quiet, civil, and vaguely boring, Will swoons like he's watching Gregory Peck walk into a newsroom. What he refuses to confront is that decorum without decency is just lacquer. "

🧡A Threads post in response to a George Will op ed praising Mike DeWine - the post includes a screenshot to a comment on the Will piece which is spot on in labeling DeWine as a radical right winger clothed in temperamental calmness

The comment is a luminous piece of prose, suitable for framing.

Going to end on one of the most beautiful commercials ever made with the reminder and a call to remember the small things. They make a big difference to others.

Love all, help all.

I remember when there was a discussion on Twitter about Shein's manufacturing practices and some apologists invented all sorts of fantastical machinery and technology to avoid facing the more horrifying truth. Reminds me of this comedian's joke.

Title: How to focus on writing your book

There follow eleven tiny images telling a story. The captions read:

Turn your devices off (a writer with a phone and laptop. The screens are dark).
Put them in a drawer.
Lock the drawer.
Throw away the key.
Leave the house.
Do not look back.
Keep to backroads and hedgerows.
Feel your old life slip away. (the writer has shed his clothes)
Sleep by day.
Forage in the evening.
Write by the light of the moon
When you have a passable first draft, commit a minor crime and use your phone call to contact your agent. (the naked writer is in a prison holding a phone while an unamused police officer looks on).

Got an email from Costco offering hot cellphones deals.
Seems odd that a reputable retailer would be selling stolen merchandise.
