-Lunar New Year is February 17 and many schools recognize Lunar New Year through learning opportunities that deepen studentsβ understanding of this annual celebration.
-February 16 is Family Day and all YRDSB schools and offices will be closed to observe
the holiday.
-February is Black History Month & YRDSB continues to work towards advancing inclusion through meaningful action. Efforts include strengthening inclusive curriculum materials, supporting Black student achievement & well-being &
continuing to implement Boardβs Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy
-January 27 was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In recognition of the day, YRDSB shared instructional, professional learning and wellbeing resources to assist staff in teaching about the Holocaust in developmentally appropriate
and inclusive ways.
-YRDSBβs Directorβs Annual Report, which includes information
from the previous school year as well as the current year where available, is currently being revised and is posted on the Boardβs website.
-International Education Services continued preparations for the arrival of approximately 120 new international students expected in February.

international students to ensure smooth transitions into YRDSB schools.
-French Immersion (FI) registration opened to families in January and will continue until February 9. Families of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 and wishing to
enroll in the optional program can email or call their home school office and declare their intention to register in FI.
-As sem 2 gets underway in secondary schools, & the deadline for next yearβs course selections approaches, students are reviewing their course and pathway options.
-Registration for Junior Kindergarten is also underway. Families have the option to register online, by email, phone or mail.
-The Board is on track to enable student access to Gemini (AI) for learning beginning this month for Grades 7-12.
-Resources will be provided to schools to teach about AI literacy
in Grades K-6. Resources aimed at Grades 7-12 will include resources for safety, privacy and effective use of AI.
- This is for educators from 20 schools engage in job-embedded professional learning following a continuous improvement cycle model with large group and school-based
learning opportunities directly within the classroom.

Student Services successfully applied for & secured Responsive Education Funding (REF) through the Removing Barriers for Students with Disabilities grant.
