My dream job at the end of college before I abandoned the sciences was to be a flavor chemist.
Smh, I wanted to be the one inventing these new horrors
My highlight of the weekend was ski-touring O-Hill.
Such fun (until my skins froze because they not really designed to function in loose ice)

This is my personal single-issue voter proposal.
As a runner and just regular person, plentiful public bathrooms are the biggest easy to provide service missing from America.
This is absolutely true, having reviewed a good bit of uva camera footage, itβs shocking how clear and comprehensive the coverage is

24.12.2025 02:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As we finish up the year, 404 Media will have stuff publishing over the holidays. Some horrible (you'll see on Xmas day), some fun. Subscribers will still get a story each day.
In the meantime, here's some of our best coverage this year, starting with Flock + ICE: www.404media.co/ice-taps-int...

20.12.2025 03:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs insane that in about 3 years weβve essentially nuked the sum total of human knowledge by making truth indistinguishable from falsehood or unfindable amidst the rubbish

17.12.2025 04:05 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Flock lost its contract because there was no way to protect the people of Charlottesville and have a usable ALPR system.
There never will be.
On to the next campaign!
And the dangers created by ICE searches didnβt go away. 7 days is plenty of time to figure out if someone is in Cville to set up a deportation raid.
17.12.2025 02:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0With the 7 day retention period, Flock became a machine for manufacturing probable cause to stop cars, search people, and kick down doors. Those searches could never be effectively challenged in court because the underlying data was long gone by the time lawyers got involved.
17.12.2025 02:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The police departmentβs limits on data retention are a perfect example. The 7 day window was supposed to assuage public concerns.
But in practice it created nightmares for defense attorneys who could not get discovery on Flock searches and limited the systems utility
Third, Flock exposes one of the baseline problems with mass surveillance systems. They either sweep so broadly as to become massive threats to public safety, or they become useless and error prone with restrictions.
17.12.2025 02:34 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Second, the campaign of steady public and private pressure is a model for Cville to build on. The village really came together for this one.
Big shoutout to @rpogge.bsky.social for his work with Justice Forward Virginia
First, this is a huge victory for all the journalists who have bird dogged Flock to expose their nefarious collaborations with ICE, abuses by cops, and false advertising
Iβm thinking especially of @josephcox.bsky.social and @404media.co
Congratulations to all the organizers, protesters, public commenters, email senders and general busybodies who turned out to boot Flock Safety out of Cβville
Iβll share some thoughts in this thread but first β¦.
