12.08.2025 02:11 β π 35 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0For the first time in history, since the Bay Conservation & Development Commission (BCDC) was formed in 1965, they voted to reduce public access & close 4 miles of Bay Trail along the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge four days/week for 3 years.

08.08.2025 17:20 β π 147 π 16 π¬ 7 π 1"Population Loss Analysis: More people are leaving Marin County than moving in Figure 1. Net Migration Rate for Marin County - 2010 to 2023 Overall net migration (in- versus out-moves per 1,000 households) and net migration by household income for those making above and below 50% AMI (~$75k). 20 5.2 0-2.34 -5.6 -20 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 More than 50% AMI 4.7 Overall -18.4 Less than 50% AMI -33.5 Above zero = more people moving in. "The population is notably aging. There is a deficit of working-age adults (25-44 years) and young families who cannot afford to live in Marin, leading to workforce shortages that require 64% of workers to commute from outside the county. Continued declines in this age group lead to declining school enrollment and closures that further deters families and working age adults from moving to Marin."
"18.4 per 1,000 households left Marin County between 2010 and 2023, with more lower-income households leaving than higher-income households (33.5 per 1,000 households). The data suggests that: βMore economically vulnerable residents from Marin are forced to leave, while wealthier households can still move into and remain in the county. βMarin experienced a loss of local labor, requiring many local workers to commute long distances from outside the county."
@mtcbata.bsky.social An HOV lane on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge isn't going to fix this. At best it's ineffective at addressing the issue, & at worst it exacerbates the problem by taking attention away from real solutions.
You had an opportunity to be responsible and truthful, and you failed.

08.08.2025 00:40 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In a historic move, members of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) decided to remove public access to the Bay, contra to their stated goals of increasing maximal public access to the Bay. Car-brained nonsense. The fight's not over yet.
08.08.2025 00:24 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0making everyone's lives worse - more traffic, less public access. failure of governance.
08.08.2025 00:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My note: The current debate around the study performance measures & timelines is a level of abstraction which allows commissioners to not have to confront the real, daily impacts on individuals from their decision making.
08.08.2025 00:01 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Astonishing to hear several BCDC commissioners state that:
Ending 24/7 bike/walk access to Richmond San Rafael Bridge curtails maximum public access to the Bay,
AND that such a move is unprecedented,
BUT they still plan to curtail access.
Why? The purpose of BCDC is to protect & expand access.
These people will do anything but....keep a perfectly great bike path open to people!
08.08.2025 00:00 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm sorry, it is *sending* me that one of the BCDC commissioners voting to close the RSR Bridge bike path is Zooming in from his Tesla Model X.

07.08.2025 23:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0See folks, we have to *lose* bike infrastructure in order to *get* more bike infrastructure.

07.08.2025 15:56 β π 61 π 10 π¬ 2 π 2HUGE HUGE victory for San Mateo County, for anyone who rides transit in the Bay Area, anyone who drives & hates traffic, people who like breathing clean air and a growing economy.
San Mateo County will be joining IN to the regional measure for funding transit! Big group win & lots of work ahead!
Evening, folks! I'm currently attending a meeting of Santa Monica NIMBY group Northeast Neighbors.
I normally wouldn't tweet a small-ish meeting like this, but they have a special guest on to talk about housing: State Senator Aisha Wahab!

Bay Wheels had a record July in the East Bay, racking up 29000 rides. The top 10 stations, too.
06.08.2025 01:45 β π 22 π 4 π¬ 3 π 2Because San Mateo County does not have any representatives on the BART Board of Directors, some leaders were adamant about including explicit language and oversight to ensure the operator uses the potential funding wisely. While the county contributes significantly less in operating costs than the member districts β San Francisco, Alameda and Contra Costa counties β it also means it has less sway in operating decisions. The countyβs transit leaders have historically expressed frustration over what they consider subpar safety measures and lack of coordination scheduling with Caltrain.
Absurd. San Mateo wants more BART oversight for county to join regional transit measure, yet:
1) BART is the ONLY Bay Area transit agency with oversight from an independent Inspector General
2) San Mateo is the only county that doesnβt pay fare share to BART
