The deference we give to drivers is astonishing: speeding, blowing through red lights, crashing without a whisper; yet we jump on non-drivers the moment they step out of line.

This is the main issue I have with so much of the coverage around e-bikes. It's not that there aren't legitimate issues. But there is a panic around e-bikes and crickets regarding the daily toll of cars. And that's because the harm of cars is just accepted. It's baked into our society.

Seattle Mayor Harrell has repeatedly mocked his opponent, Katie Wilson, for saying she wants to add 4,000 new shelter beds over four years. Meanwhile, his administration was wasting millions keeping available hotel rooms empty.

Harrell trying to position himself as the outsider running a grassroots campaign is hilarious (pathetic). Dude has been The Establishment for almost 2 decades! Who does he think he's fooling?

@wilsonforseattle.bsky.social has accomplished more outside the halls of power than Harrell has within.

My understanding is that the SBC currently only allows 2 single exit conditions per lot. If that is amended, I could see 3 stacked duplexes with 2 hour fire separations between each on large lots. Each duplex could sell independently. Could work for multigenerational living, mortgage offset, etc.

The “she didn’t do jumpstart” line is going to fall really flat when two of Harrell’s favorite endorsements, Jayapal and Mosqueda, are on the record crediting Wilson with jumpstart. Is he calling them liars?

Harrell sounds more Trumpian with every debate. A toxic, egotistical, misogynistic bully.

* Opposed and delayed new safe streets projects while cutting ribbons at bike lanes and bus lanes he never supported and would't have built except that the last Seattle Transportation Levy required building them.

“Balance” would hand over space to transit, bikes, and people on foot.

The dreaded b word. “Balance” just means tweaking the status quo, mostly to preserve it. What is needed is a reapportionment of street space to deliver the outcomes that makes cities function. That doesn’t come with balance. That comes with choices.

Bruce Harrell makes his closing statement for why he should keep his job after his poor performance as Seattle Mayor and this line says it all.

"This is not the time to hope."

"Community input" has always been elaborate theater. From Lk WA Blvd to bus lanes on Cap Hill - we spend months checking with everyone, then bow to a tiny group's preference.

I used to despise "Seattle process" because it took forever and empowered NIMBYs. Now I despise it because it's a sham.

I think a business owner advocating for pedestrianization, transit, bike infra would be written off, esp by the current admin. They would probably be treated as a one off, not representative of the Actual Very Special Small Business Owners.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

These aren't even retailers, service providers, etc so they can't be complaining about losing customers! This bus-only lane probably personally inconveniences their car commute but they have the ear of the mayor. So blatantly corrupt and also just incredibly stupid.

Another example of @seattledot.bsky.social and Mayor Harrell taking the side of wealthy business owners (Dunn & Hobbes, Hunters Capital, & Madrona Real Estate) over the needs of transit riders and cyclists. This is absolutely shameful and they aren't even hiding it anymore! Makes me sick.
