I’m no kid, and I called the aunts and uncles I was closest to by their first names sans title when I was growing up.

Exactly my approach. I know that using it as a synonym for “raises the question” is considered wrong by most folks in the know. But I don’t really know how to use it “correctly” either. So out it goes.

Completely agree, but I’ve sworn off them until BK retires those horrible ads with the off-key jingle.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.

One more question: Does the second half of the sentence (re greater likelihood of challenged ballots belonging to Black voters) still follow logically now that the ratio is correct?

I also don’t think it’s possible that Black voters *in the sample of challenged ballots* outnumber white voters 3 to 1 either, if the share of Black voters in the sample is 20%, as the piece says. That would mean only 6–7% white voters.

My first thought was that I must be missing something. But if so, I haven’t figured it out yet. The piece says Black voters outnumber white voters in NC 3:1. But per Wikipedia, the ratio of Black to white NC’ians is 20:60 (1:3), not 60:20 (3:1).

Good article, but I think there’s a factual error here:

“About 20 percent are Black, and since Black voters in the state outnumber white voters by three to one, Griffin’s challenge is about twice as likely to disenfranchise a Black voter as it is a white voter.”

NC is 20% Black, 60 white.

Hope the LA Times is being sure to print the fire’s point of view too.
