Working on the ol' propaganda. 15 years ago I started drawing queer comics on an A5 pad, so for fun I'm trying the same general idea at the same scale.

2026 is off to a lazy start. Had a very mild cold that is just annoying enough to make me sleepy most of the day.

Finally watched Star Trek: Lower Decks this year. I'm glad I got over my initial reservations, because it was brill.

I was so happy when T'Lyn joined the main cast. Girls in blue uniforms are just the best (I love Tendi too, but T'yn ticks more of my boxes).

Preferring 1 to 1 meet ups and caring about punctuality, this is why we're kindred spirits.

In a huge piece of cosmic irony, today, when I turned on my tablet to half-tone this piece, the drivers updated and broke my tablet. Turns out it's no longer officially supported and I had to roll back my drivers to an earlier version.

And this is why I turned real sour on digital art.

Four pieces of art, from 2012, 2017, 2019 and 2025 showing Monica yelling at a worried Terry that they're either digitally drawn or traditionally drawn. Did I mention I've been off HRT for nearly a year now? Don't know if that's reflected at all in the 2025 piece.

I got my first tablet 13 years ago. After extensive use, I realised it wasn't for me and stick pretty much to traditional.

This year however I started using it again for final touch ups and half-tones/colouring, which is a pretty good compromise.

It's parodying that picture of Sufjan Stevens and his family(?) on the liner notes of 'Songs for Christmas'. I need to listen to more of his albums but there are so many, and I'm at high risk of getting emotionally devastated by them at any moment. These bloody Christmas albums have made me cry for God's sake!

Good things happening in the sketchbook right now.

The main art lesson of 2025: grid paper. If you're using a lightbox to ink you can use grid paper for your pencils. And it makes panelling and keeping things level SO much easier.

So for September I had taken time off to bunker down and focus on art projects.

Instead I got Covid in the second week and spent the rest of the month sick and recovering. Thanks for bringing that home dad!

I'm mostly over it, just tired, so I hope I can get properly started this month.

This is mostly a trend in Manga, and I've read it's not even a successful one, but boy is it exhausting looking at the new releases and seeing whole ass sentences on the book's spine.

My editor (me) is telling me annoyingly long, overly descriptive titles are in, so here goes:

Some half-tone practice. I was happy with how these came out, I much prefer half-tones to colours at the moment, I think they suit me better.

Recently I've been drawing a lot of Trans Femmes who have, let's say, masculine foibles.

But, get this, did you know Cis Women can also have things like body hair and adam's apples. Crazy, I know, it's almost like the human experience is varied and complex.

What's harder than drawing a piano? A double bass! Copy and paste my previous post about drawing music instruments to scale here. Pretty sure this double bass is too small.

I read all of Nana by Ai Yazawa this year, and it really lit a fire under me. I always wanted to make comics about music and it showed me it was totally possible to do so.

It also taught me the valuable lesson that all your characters can indeed be punks and goths. No one can stop you.
