When It comes to local politics, you can be a freak like me and pay attention to everything, or you can do the shortcut and ask your landlord who you should vote for and then vote for the other candidate.

Election 2025: Minneapolis Park Board, District 4 This district is currently represented by Elizabeth Shaffer, who is running for the Ward 7 City Council seat. I donโ€™t like Shaffer; she is central to all my current grudges against the currenโ€ฆ

Minneapolis Park Board District 4: Jason Garcia wins the coveted Naomi Kritzer endorsement. Some consider it more prestigious than Jason's DFL endorsement.

Minneapolis Ward 2 election could play pivotal role in City Council control Incumbent Robin Wonsley and challenger Shelley Madore focus on housing, affordability and public safety in ward surrounding the U.

Shelley Madore doesnโ€™t actually live in Ward 2 โ€” she rents an apt in Prospect Park to claim residency. She also accuses Robi of grandstanding rather than practicalityโ€ฆ the same @robin4mpls.bsky.social whoโ€™s passed more unanimous legislation than any other CM.

This thread is an example why we should oppose deployment of local or state police to โ€œprotectโ€ protestors in relation ICE/Fed aggression. It will multiply repression of protestors, not reduce it. Shitty move by Pritzker and a move Dem governors are likely to make.

Help Boneshaker Move to Our New Home! After fourteen years in our current space, we have made the decision that itโ€™s time for Boneshaker Books to move. While we treasure the time we've spent in Seward, and will miss existing as aโ€ฆ

Could the Wedge be getting a bookstore? Boneshaker books plans to move from Seward to the old Common Roots building at 708 W 26th Street. They need to raise $6,000 by 10/17 to make it happen.

Dear neighbor,
It breaks my heart to hear the anti-immigrant bigotry being lobbed at street vendors on top of community members threatening ICE on them. This behavior is abhorrent and has no place in Minneapolis.
Itโ€™s also come to my attention that the police are being called on vendors, which is creating deep fear. I am writing this post to update you all on the street vendor situation in Minneapolis.
Mayor Freyโ€™s administration has made it clear that the next level of enforcement for unlicensed vendors will involve criminal citations, discarding of food, and possibly taking vendor equipment.
I will not be co-signing this punitive approach that could lead to the deportation of immigrants and impact their immigration status. I do not support this action and strongly condemn this approach.
My office has been working hard to find solutions, which includes passing a new ordinance, reducing the fees for a permit, and establishing a program to help vendors pass and take tests. I continue to believe a comprehensive approach can help us address these issues.
Issuing citations is not the only way to enforce regulations. This criminalization approach risks damaging the trust and relationships in our community. This is not how we should welcome our immigrant neighbors. Instead, we must lead with compassion and understanding.

An immediate solution that does not involve the criminalization of immigrants, people trying to make a living, and vendors would be to allow them into our parks to sell food, as we wait for residents to pass their exams and acquire permits. It could help alleviate the concerns of community while still allowing working people to make a living.

Council Member Chavez,
As you know, City staff has been working directly with your office to amplify these efforts. Staff are already providing unlicensed vendors with education, translation, and training so they can comply with the health code. But we still have a health codeโ€”including City regulations you passedโ€”that cannot be ignored. Our staff enforce these codes based on a concern for public health. Period. Thatโ€™s their job: to support small businesses while upholding the laws you helped craft. Our ask is that you resume working with City staff to ensure food safety and advise these prospective vendors to operate legally and successfully.

Is it normal for a mayor to comment on a city council member's Facebook post with a rebuttal that is mostly an attempt to shame said council member? I'm genuinely asking. It seems odd that Frey would comment on @jchavezmpls.bsky.social's post. But maybe I just don't follow Facebook closely enough?

Every year park board candidates pretend there's nothing political about parks but 1) they are running for office
2) the park board budget is $155M. 3) the park board runs their own police department

To be clear, Iโ€™m not knocking an 18 year old who chooses to run! Just noting that the argument of needing ten years residence in a ward is a bit specious

Now theyโ€™re claiming anyone could run ages 18-98 but they still want ten years of residence in the ward. Because living here from ages 8-18 would make someone a more viable candidate then a 20-something who grew up near Sibley, has incredible policy experience, and does indeed live in the ward

When I challenged this and asked how long they wanted someone to live in a ward before running they said ten years. TEN!!!
