Robert Jenrick’s comments about Handsworth are a pathetic attempt to stoke hatred by invoking white supremacist tropes.

Everywhere in the UK is worse off than it was 15 years ago. Why? Because of Tory austerity and local government ministers like Jenrick gutting council funding.

I have huge respect for @sundersays.bsky.social but I can't agree with that. Any definition of the far right which doesn't include the >100,000 scum who marched through London is strange.

I know lots of them don't think of their rally or themselves as far right. That doesn't matter. They still are.

This. The Reform/Tory embrace of anti-Muslim hatred won't stop at Muslims. It never does. They'll come for all of us, if we let them.

Three images of Saturn from top to bottom: First, a standard RGB color image showing the rings nearly edge-on at about a 30 degree angle. Middle, a black and white image similar to above, but a little sharper taken with a filter that allows only wavelengths longer than 850nm. Lastly, at bottom, the rings seen as starkly white and the planet dark. This is a very narrow wavelength range of about 20nm centered on 889nm where methane absorbs light, making Saturn itself appear dark and the rings bright.

Been imaging Saturn while its rings are nearly edge-on and tried some infrared filters. At this 889nm methane band, Saturn strongly absorbs light, whereas its rings scatter equally across wavelengths.

Also a good visual demo of how astronomers measure exoplanet atmospheres!

if that HIGNFY Euan Blair fuckup had been about a right-winger it'd have had full front-page scandal coverage in the Mail followed by frontpage coverage across the board for the next week, days of "BBC in crisis" headline coverage by the BBC, and parliamentary questions about Tim Davie's future

If politics are going crazy in several European countries one after the other, I think it is time to go past blaming the failures of individual political actors (and there are quite a few, both in the UK and France) to looking at the systemic pressures our political systems are failing to deal with.

There’s absolutely no difference between the man who attacked the synagogue & the men who attacked the mosque.

Extremists looking to sow hate & discord in this country - weak pathetic men who know nothing else then hate

I don't know where this revisionism has come from about the suffragettes - people saying "if the suffragettes were around today, they'd be considered terrorists."

The suffragettes were arrested and tortured, sexually assaulted and beaten by the state. They *were* considered terrorists!

What an admirably clear statement from the Jewish Leadership Council, especially when all of those involved must surely have been dealing with so many other urgent challenges in safety, security and grief + shock today before having this further divisive and distracting intervention to address too.

Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."

The breadth of Jewish disapproval of Netanyahu is significantly under-reported in UK media. Views are never monolithic but the median British Jew feels an attachment to Israel and feels Netanyahu has been a disaster for Israel (Institute for Jewish Policy Research)

This is a really key chart. Look at the difference between concern about immigration between Lab to Reform switchers and Lab to LD/Green/don't know switchers.

The latter group is five times larger.

this business model should be flatly illegal

taking on a bunch of debt to buy a company and then burning the company to the ground to service that debt while paying yourselves huge fees is a purely destructive practice that has never once had a positive outcome

ban it completely

Via The Independent: Donald Trump’s false claim that London β€˜wants to go to Sharia law’ has been described as β€˜appalling and bigoted’ by Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The Muslim Council of Britain responded: β€œWe pray for Mr Trump's health and wellbeing as his hallucinations seem to be getting worse by the day”

Exactly the right language and tone from Starmer here -no nonsense about "legitimate concerns" or weasel words about cost/practicality.

Now government needs to put his money where the PM's mouth is (in policy terms)

Exclusive: Andy Burnham’s plan for Britain Inside his Manchester kingdom, Labour’s prince across the water outlines his radical blueprint

There'll be scenes like this (and much worse) up and down the UK if Reform get into government and start acting out their Send Them Back fantasies. A thousand acts of sadism carried out by malevolent racist thugs employed and empowered by the state.

Some of you will be safe. Many of us won't.

Lift two-child benefit cap, ministers to urge PM Keir Starmer will be told by a taskforce before the budget to make the change β€” but it will cost Β£3bn a year when Rachel Reeves is trying to plug a spending gap

Ending this cruel Tory policy would lift 400,000 children out of poverty, and 700,000 children would be in less extreme poverty.

It was always expected that the child poverty taskforce would recommend scrapping it. Our government must do so without further delay.

Nigel Farage's Reform a Bigger Far-Right Threat Than the BNP, Says UK’s Leading Anti-Racism Campaigner Hope not Hate's CEO Nick Lowles says Reform's rise is mainstreaming ideas that were previously taboo even on parts of the far-right

The head of the UK's leading anti-racism campaign group Hope not Hate wrote to Keir Starmer to complain about his "silence" in the face of a rising far-right threat.

"At the time when people needed leadership there was silence.

β€œAnd for the far right, that silence just emboldened them further"
