Agree, but they CAN be positive in some aspects, something is better than nothing in the meanwhile imo.

In short, human greed is infinite and without monetary incentives or consequences no big corpo/ government will care enough to actually take action for the planet health.

I work at a state climate change dpt. (in Mexico), trust me, we know, but bureaucracy and corruption are some of the biggest enemies for CC action, and the only thing a lot of governments can do is pushing for local regulations (with carbon taxes) or habitat conservation through carbon credits.

Not what I said, it is a way to put pressure and incentivize decarbonisation, wich is the ultimate goal.
Why would any of them push for those regulations if is does not bring them a (monetary) benefit?

How do you plan on pressuring the big corpos and governments to decarbonize if not through monetary means? It is clear that they do not care about the environment, so what other options do we have? If you have a better idea im all ears

Why offsets are not a viable alternative to cutting emissions In this report we set out an assessment the state of global science around offsets, and, in light of that, examine the impact of the Australian Government’s proposed changes for the country’s industri...

Yes it’s more complex but the basic premise remains: we have to stop burning all fossil fuels, asap, end of story. Not keep them going thru magic tech or offsets.
The scientific case against offsets is set out very clearly in the first half of this report

Again, I agree completely.

As much as I agree with you, it is much more complex than that.

I agree, but sadly lots of local governments are betting and relying on them as the only way to protect crucial habitat patches, the money coming from them being the only deterrent for a lot of communities not to sell their land to developers and industrial farming, specially in the global south.

The search engine degradation was lead by Google in a deliberate effort to make search less effective, and thus deliver more advertising. The fundamental problem, as if often the case, was greed.
