Most people experienced the fall of the Roman Empire as: โ€œOne day a bridge collapsed, and no one came to fix it.โ€

I confess I am a CD guy but yeah, true. I rarely go through the effort of throwing a disc on but it definitely makes a difference. Even cassettes have a specific charm even if their quality is probably more in the same zone as streaming

Oh yeah neither of those are any good. Try a free player first, I think i used the Leowo player. It was laggy in the menus but it was fine for most discs to play them at least

Oh bummer! They work in mine, but I'd had trouble with some BDs in the past, it was solved when I actually bought PowerDVD instead of using a free player

Had an urge to watch some Lower Decks last night so I cracked my blu-ray set and I gotta say, there is a noticeable difference in quality between the discs and watching it on streaming! Everything is crisper in ways that I didn't expect to notice.

Anyway, buy your favourite shows on physical media!

one of the greatest human triumphs of my lifetime is the relentless, unceasing, heroic effort by DECADES' worth of doctors and scientists to find a cure for a disease much of the world didn't take seriously for years because it predominantly affected a community they thought kinda deserved it

The Wright Museums Instagram page is HILARIOUS. Think The Office but it's the staff at a Museum for Black History. Better believe this is on my list of places to visit.

Sailor Moon S1E9 Close-up of a monster. It's a woman's face with wavy black hair, including some pointy chunks falling over her forehead. She's got white skin, pointy ears, a red streak of makeup crossing each eye from forehead to her cheek, indigo lipstick, a black star on her cheek, and greek eye shadow with a matching streak down her nose. Her expression is gleefully evil.

Sailor Moon S1E16 Mid-shot of a real badass bitch of a woman (she has been possessed by a cursed bolt of silk) looking contemptfully at her confused fiance who we see from behind, a man so short her barely comes up to her boobs in this screenshot. She's got a big chunky haircut, dark eyeliner, a cropped low-cut black tank top layered under a loose-fitting lime green short-sleeved button-up shirt, open except where it's knotted just below her belly-button. She's wearing purple pants.

however an advantage of watching it as an adult is that i get to experience one-off designs like this for the first time and appreciate how damn cool they are. i've seen a lot of "Naoko Takeuchi was influenced by Mugler!" threads, but the sheer volume of Fashion in this show is NUTS.

i've spoken elsewhere about how i never really watched this show when i was a kid because it was a "girl's show" (though i didn't even watch dragonball that much) and i'm super annoyed, i feel like i would've been a more rounded person earlier in life.

Started playing Absolum tonight in online co-op with a pal, it's cool as hell! Classic beat-em-up with roguelike features and some extremely charming cartoon art!

(Just note that if you want to play with someone else you'll have to do the tutorial first on your own)

This is how I know I'm old because I use cartoon both descriptively and positively... though i can see how "cartoony" could wind up being derogatory in the context of something that's meant to be serious

A comic in black/white/blue.
Lucy rolls her bike through an alley, by a crew building a fence.
Narration: My neighbors hired a crew to rebuild their fence.
Crew member: "Do you need us to move our stuff out of the way?"
Lucy: "Oh! No, you're all good, thanks!"
Lucy: "Have a good one!"
Crew member: "You, too!"

Narration: I was teaching when my phone started lighting up with alerts from the rapid response network and neighbor chat.
Lucy's back is to us as she shows a group of enthusiastic children something on a notebook. Behind her, her phone in her bag is buzzing.

Narration: By the time the lesson was over, they were already gone.
Lucy is reading messages on her phone.

Lucy is riding her bike home.
Narration: On the ride home, I kept thinking "If I'd been there, could I have warned them? Would my ICIRR* training have helped?"
*Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Get trained and know your rights at ICIRR.org.

Narration: I'd taken the training after Halloween, when the violent ICE raids had locked down our schools and driven our neighbors indoors.

(Image of a halloween bucket in the shape of a jack-o-lantern)

Narration: Halloween is fun here-- The community filling the streets and opening our doors to one another. But this year's was tense, frightened and subdued. Haunted.

Lucy is standing in the alley, staring at the newly built fence.
Narration: When I got home, it was all done. The other two guys who had gotten inside in time stayed and finished the build.

The new fence is superimposed with the brief exchange from earlier in the comic ("Have a good one" You, too")
Narration: I see it every day and think about how those guys built this in the spot where strangers in masks took their friend.

Narration: How many other places in our communities are similarly haunted?
(Drawings of sidewalks, buildings, streets and windows)

the Barbara Kruger mural the chase is happening in front of reads:

"WHO IS BEYOND THE LAW? WHO IS BOUGHT AND SOLD? WHO IS FREE TO CHOOSE? WHO DOES THE TIME? WHO FOLLOWS ORDERS? WHO SALUTES LONGEST? WHO PRAYS LOUDEST? WHO DIES FIRST? WHO LAUGHS LAST?"

Capitalism is so โœจ๏ธdynamicโœจ๏ธ that if you tell investors half the global economy will be wiped out in 50 years, they make plans to extract as much value until right before it happens, and to make sure their half isn't the one that gets wiped out.

The 8 hour day is SO long! I had the same experience after a short gig at the end of last year though- it was too short to burn out, so I was able to stick with the routine and carve out a bunch of time to do my own thing for a while. Hope it works for you too!

the fierce and tireless work people in Minnesota, Illinois, California and elsewhere across the USA are doing to fight against ICE is inspiring and heroic, it also should never have got to this point.

"No Regrets" Organizer calls for more militant protests
YouTube video by KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco "No Regrets" Organizer calls for more militant protests

facebook reminded me of this video from nine years ago, featuring Yvette Felarca firmly and articulately defending mass militancy (in this case, the context is deplatforming milo yiannopoulos) and all i can think is how frustrating it is that these arguments weren't heeded at the time

Update for anyone who hasn't heard yet, Adobe will be keeping Animate available without feature updates for the time being, which is fine by me.

Sure would love to be able to buy a permanent license, like I can with Clip Studio Paint, but at least there's no immediate danger of losing access now.

Respectfully, this is not true. Harmony is the one alternative that comes close to doing what Animate does, but it's more expensive. Other software exists, but the level of refinement and capacity of their features aren't yet where Animate is, and it could be years before they come close.

04.02.2026 02:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

For sure, though this video at least demonstrates something very different from what Animate is used for, and the scope here is much smaller than is necessary for a TV production. I'm glad it exists and is constantly being built up, but I'm not convinced it's viable yet as a wholesale replacement
