I started this post thinking "Bluesky is neat and I wish the people I used to know were here." I could see and interact with them in a way that made sense to me again.

And I don't want to put myself out there just to perpetuate yet more disappointment in the new people I'll meet. I struggle to continue to try, because I'm already convinced of the endpoint.

Maybe I'm projecting, looking at the silhouette of my own feelings and attributing it to others. What's more likely is that there's some middle ground. There usually is in these kinds of things. What's really here is that I feel like a disappointment.

Sometimes people get recategorized because of things I've seen them do or say. (It's all vibes based, not spreadsheets, despite how I make it sound.) I've become scared of meeting new people because I feel like so many of the people I knew have already been disappointed by my friendship.

I get worse and worse at keeping up with folks, in part because I've socially atrophied. But some of it is in how I form and keep connections as well. I'm guilty of putting people in boxes based on the experiences I've shared with them. Sometimes those boundaries get broken.

I don't want to see an endless river of short form videos that are all either information dumps, thirst traps, or rage bait. I want to see the people that I knew learning new things, showing off their accomplishments and creations, or sharing something that's affecting them in a big way.

The landscape of social platforms is media and marketing. I don't want to be entertained and distracted by some algorithm. I want to see what the people I know or follow are proud to share, what's on their mind. I don't want to see 4 or 5 adverts for every single meme shared from a meme page.

I'm terrified. I'm feeling extremely socially isolated, since so many of the people that I have reached out to hardly respond, if at all. These are the folks that I reach out to because I used to know how to interact with them and that's the kind of sociality I'm craving.

I'm beyond pleased that it isn't the same person.

I would even say speed it up to a hardcore speed. The song feels pretty sedate coasting where it's at around 120bpm, but crank that up to 200 and it really goes.
