I think the most absurd is the Delancey Street Garage which happens to be on top of the Delancey/Essex station complex and is therefore signed as a park and ride.

Lemme just drive into the Lower East Side, park my car and take the train into downtown Manhatt—oh wait

This one in the Bronx is really funny because the parking lot is 1300 feet from the nearest subway station (Bronx Park East on the 2)

But that’s basically it for serious park and rides. Let’s take a trip to the silly zone and see how far NYCDoT is willing to stretch this term.

Occasionally you’ll get a municipal parking garage that happens to be near a subway station. Though the station isn’t the main clientele, it still gets a “park & ride” sign. This is the case at Court Square as well as at the Queens Family Court in Jamaica.

However, most of the time what happened in New York is that decades after a station had opened, the city decided to buy some adjacent property and build a parking lot. For example, Canarsie - Rockaway Parkway on the L.

So first up, we have the only traditional purpose-built park and ride: Grant Avenue. This station was built in 1956 and featured a massive parking crater from the start. This sort of thing is common in a lot of cities but it’s unique for New York.

I went down the rabbit hole of NYC subway station “park and rides”. These were my findings.
