I'll at least give props to The Invisible Man for having a believable domestic abuse situation as a core element of the story. It's just a shame it was in service of such a sloppy film.

18.02.2026 19:05 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Is the point of Blumhouse's Universal Monster remakes to make some of the most uninspired horror films ever? This new The Mummy movie trailer crams in so many tropes and borrowed imagery that my eyes just glazed over.
Lee Cronin, you're better than this.
Robert Duvall *AND* Tom Noonan!? In as many days!? Come the fuck on, man. The world is cruel.

It really feels like sitting in a blistering heatwave, slight winds ferrying someone else's psychotic episode into your ears from miles away.
Yes, it's a product of its time and longform narratives were rare on network television then, but god, it sucks to get so close to what feels like a mind-splitting revelation only to be dragged away from it for something somewhat pedestrian in comparison.
26.01.2026 08:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0There's something slightly irritating about the X-Files in the way that the alien/government plot is basically an exercise in narrative edging. Every now and then, they bring you so close just to stop dead in their tracks and things just go back to normal.
26.01.2026 08:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Love it when a show has great guest stars. X-Files has so many. You put on an episode and it's like, "Oh, hey, Tony Shalhoub!"

I'm not saying Skinner isn't handsome, but why would I be talking about him and not Gillian Anderson?
A fun little game to play while watching X-Files is recognizing actors and trying to figure out which Trek series they were also in without just looking on IMDb.
21.01.2026 04:47 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Farscape is a fantastic example of how balancing the two formats can work wonderfully. You have the core plot (Criton tries to get back to Earth), but there are so many adventures along the way that change the stakes, expand the scope, introduce new foes, etc.
20.01.2026 05:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Rewatching X-Files, something stands out to me, just as it did when rewatching TNG.
Other genres of TV really ought to return to the 20+ episode, episodic storytelling format.
Yeah, you have your Law & Orders and other network shows, but not so much in the realm of thrillers, horror, and sci-fi.
It's kind of shocking that The X-Files did a spin on The Thing just eight episodes into the series. It's even more shocking that it's one of the best episodes of the first season.
