Hi Andrew - Thanks for sharing! I just ordered your book! My doc didn't get into the US history you covered, but the stories I know about of that era are amazing and so important to retell these days. Looking forward to it!

Great piece. On a related note, it gives me hope that people spend so much time and money to go to live music events. Having experiences where the musician and listeners share something is meaningful to us, for reasons we don't often put into words.

THE PLEA is the most exquisitely told, and urgently needed, data storytelling. Bravo @neilhalloran.bsky.social!

Thank you so much, Hank, for sharing my doc! This thread makes me think of the Duesberg hypothesis in the 80s, which claimed that HIV did not cause AIDS. Lifestyle factors (drugs, sex) were instead to blame. Such theories do alleviate the burden of believing it's in our power to help.

The new Neil Halloran documentary on Smallpox has completely changed how I see the RFK Jr. version of the world. Neil (softly) argues that realizing that disease isn't the fault of the sick /or/ the fault of the Gods ushered in a new future where we felt the authority to care for each other.

Watch this fascinating data visualization on the history of deadly smallpox by @neilhalloran.bsky.social - It's relevance today in the midst of #vaccine debunkers couldn't be more timely. A riveting 25-mins film full of aha moments.

So great Moritz! On the funding side, I feel there's a real opportunity to for grant programs to emerge that will free artists to explore passionate and experimental (& popular!) projects. I'm not plugged in - have there been any attempts at this? Could @datavizsociety.bsky.social host something?

There are definitely moments of feeling lost / discouraged. I trick myself into thinking it will take a quarter as long. Mostly, though, as cheesy as it sounds, I feel fortunate to have ability to put so much time in. Too rare of a thing. BTW I do love what you've put on your YouTube channel!

Hey Anne-Sophie. It makes me so happy to see this thread. I did code all of Fallen of WWII by hand. It took years of work. These days I’m getting help from other animators, and I’ve been doing coding in After Effects. It still takes me ages - I’m just finishing the lasted after 2 years….

Much-needed good news. Nobody knows exactly why, but opioid deaths have begun a clear decline in America (to a still-astonishing 90k per year).
