Tight BoE vote reflects rising concerns about UK inflation Central bank warns of β€˜genuine uncertainty’ over scope for further rate cuts

Whispers: a lot of the UK’s problems would probably get a bit easier if we put up income tax.

Feel like I'm screaming into the void in this party sometimes because fighting 2028/29 on a national defense against Russia, pro-Europe, pro-NATO, soc-dem internationalism backed by a domestic defense industrial strategy that creates jobs is literally the best possible platform for Labour to have.

4/4 I made no secret of my desire to see defense getting a prime spot in our industrial and tax policy. I still believe a national defense levy is warranted and politically viable.

It should be the lever on which a taxation reform package is launched.

3/4 Give more to the only viable inflation countermeasure: Energy production. Every major inflationary spike in the postwar UK started with an energy price pressure point.

The new fiscal rules allow for far more investment, nuclear, tidal and wind. With the aim of making energy cheap.

2/4 Take a little bit from everywhere. Broad tax reform. New asset taxes. New tax powers for local government and at the very least council tax band reform.

The Tories' 2024 national insurance poison pill was too easily swallowed by Labour. This should be fixed.

1/4 The thing that kills me on the defecit; is that reducing, eliminating, or even turning it into a surplus (I oppose that for obv reasons) is just a matter of political will. Mechanically it really isn't hard to do.

We're fighting economic quagmire with our hands tied behind our backs.

The irony with the Drs and potential nurses strike is that it was entirely avoidable.

Negotiated pay, instead of the constantly delayed pay review body recommendations, would significantly ease tensions with staff.

It's not a new ask, and it's an easy policy win for Streeting on NHS moral crisis.

The parallel universe; where Thatcher doesn't win, North Sea Oil goes into a sovereign wealth fund and the privatisation spree doesn't happen, is truly the brightest timeline.

The amusing thing about the sign ups to this new party is that I remember trying to get those people to come campaign in 2017-2019.

Sure, they'd post on Facebook. They'd retweet all day for the cause. But knock a door, deliver a leaflet? Blood from a stone was easier.

The super-rich don't contribute their fair share because the UK taxes wages and salaries more heavily than it taxes wealth like capital gains, dividends, or property portfolios. This is a growing problem that Rachel Reeves needs to fix. Here's why & how🧡

I think the show robbed us of a horror realisation; that the old gods had been playing a long game and their prescient puppet is now ruling a depopulated, economically ruined continent.

The Blackfire/Targ dynamic was always well set for a tudor union of the last people standing.

A pet theory of mine was always that Dany was going to be married (maybe even posthumously) to Faegon and a regency council formed for her and Jon's son.

But given AFFC revelations regarding the children, the setup for a godking puppet is well founded.

1. I disagreed with PA being proscribed, even if what they did was stupid.

2. It's not, but our support for Palestine is too weak, the UK should recognise formally and Sanction the entire Isreali cabinet because they are behaving like authoritarian thugs.

Putin is invading our ally, threatening our other allies, and threatening us.

In a world of authoritarian thugs, it pays to have the means to protect your friends.

This. Opportunities are massive, especially for leveraging support to deliver tax reform to fund and a defence focused industrial strategy.

4-5% GDP on defence a must, given the threat. British jobs, rearmament, and an effective deterrent to the authoritarian axis.

If this were true, we'd have seen marked improvements in turnout to those elections run under proportional systems in the UK.

Sadly, there's a real crisis with engagement in democracy at every level. This is a tool to fix that, I agree it's a very blunt tool, but something has to be done.

Brilliant article making a key recommendation for restoring our democracy.

Every citizen has the duty to engage in this basic civic responsibility.

Auto-registration, bank holiday for election day, votes at 16, proportional representation, and yes, compulsory voting enforced through fines.

Nimbyism is a weed that needs ripping up by the roots.

Also, honestly cant fathom why anyone would think wind turbines dont add to the countryside aesthetic.

Watching the Epstein scandal blow up in Trumps working class base, only to realise the Dems will probably nominate a person similarly heavily implicated.

I maintain, a left patriotism message focused on Defence, Energy and Child welfare is the way to counter reform, the lib dems, greens and tories.

Labour can set out a unique offering. We can mobalise the wealth of the nation. But it requires the confidence to argue in favour of tax and spend.

We're also going to start seeing the greatest generational wealth transfer in human history over the next few decades. Inheritance tax is one lever, but why not easy to understand avinues for investment in domestic projects. Hypothetical gov climate bonds targetting the Millenial middle class.

While addressing frustration on our political system; it wont fix the problems in our economy, and ultimately we need to find confidence on tax and spend.

There are billions to be unlocked through tax reform.

Brown identified a highly workable proposal for a Β£9bn child poverty strategy.

This is a highly effective attack line for the Lib Dems.

For Lab to counter both attacks from the LDs and Reform; we need to show a willingness to act decicively.

The lowest cost way to do this is constitutional reform. impliment the Report of the Commission on the UK’s Future.
