My #aejmc25 is backloaded, so I did the sightseeing today!
Highly recommend Golden Gate Park (though a music festival will make getting there tougher this weekend).
Alternative: If you prefer your art museums quality over quantity, Legion of Honor is fantastic.

My niche Hulk Hogan memoriam: As a media law professor, few cases engaged my students like Bollea v. Gawker. It was controversial. Bizarre. An important test of our legal protections and professional ethics.
It also produced my favorite #McLemoreMemeWar entry of all time.

At this point, it seems obvious that Trump's FCC is just going to block the Paramount-Skydance merger anyway because they're still too "woke" or whatever and CBS soiled themselves for nothing.

CBS is ending the entire Late Show concept, not just Colbert's stint. Add the recent cancelation of Taylor Tomlinson's show and CBS is completely out of late night. That's a monumental move in TV history. CBS didn't make it overnight because Colbert jabbed at his bosses in the opening monologue.

Trump had no chance of prevailing in court. None. Yet he's already gotten two of America's broadcast networks to bend the knee to protect their business interests. There's no scenario where this ends well for the free press.

I must've stopped at a dozen gas stations, grocery stores and pharmacies looking for a newspaper to commemorate the Thunder championship. Not a single one had a paper rack. I get why they've disappeared. But it's still sad. A lost community ritual.

The Tucker Carlson-Ted Cruz interview is actually a defense of partisan news. Friendly outlets are the only ones that get a shot at that interview. And the only ones whose tough questions are genuinely wrestled with, instead of the interviewee throwing "fake news" smoke bombs.

Heads up, #ica25, the evening protests are getting heated. Witnessed confrontations between protesters and police near the capitol grounds. Be vigilant if you're staying out tonight.

ABC didn't need to be pressured by the White House to suspend Terry Moran, nor give him a free pass because they did. His position is held to a higher standard. If you care about journalistic credibility, that's a good thing.

OSU faculty fear punishment over interviews
An Oklahoma State faculty member asked that their quotes questioning a proposed university policy not be used in an OβColly article because they feared administrators would punish their department.
University platitudes about free speech and academic freedom don't match directives that create a climate of censorship.
It's a familiar story across the country. One of our award-winning student journalists published this deep dive on her way out the door (hire her!) www.ocolly.com/news/osu-fac...

Also, can intra-media literacy be a thing? Because CNBC needs a long lesson. And Reuters doesn't get absolved just because they followed the blind leader. Really shameful performance from business media today.

A hurricane of dust and fire blowing through Oklahoma today. The drive from Stillwater to OKC was harrowing. I'm still coughing. Constant sirens from fire engines. Students evacuating. Never experienced anything like this... never want to again. #okwx

I don't know how to fix this. The entire meteorological community voiced apolitical consensus that the National Weather Service is invaluable. All our conspiracy-addled leaders heard was proof of some Deep State treachery that had to be culled.

Punishing the AP over refusing to use "Gulf of America" is the latest example of a MAGA blueprint:
1. say Dems did a thing they didn't do
2. do that thing
3. justify it as retaliation for the made-up thing
4. enjoy support for doing the very thing you campaigned against
13.02.2025 21:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
As the AP rightly asserts, it serves an international audience. Its guidance regarding "Gulf of Mexico / Gulf of America" was grounded in that global scope.
The AP's rationale is sound. But even it were absurd, the government can't punish them for a disagreeable word choice.

Record 127.7M watched Super Bowl LIX
Kendrick Lamar's performance set a new record for the most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance.
Fox's Tubi bet pays off. By offering a free Super Bowl stream for the first time, the online audience nearly doubled and made a blowout championship the most watched ever.
