Non-academic here, but years of studying the "freedom movement." Fringe party supporters in 2023 (DemocracyNZ, New Conservatives, Freedoms NZ, Outdoors & Freedoms and some NZ Loyal) are consolidating behind NZ First. There is still time, though, and I'd love to see data to back this observation.

Six years of building up Ray before the email scandal have kept supporters loyal. Chung's team went on the offensive hard when that came out. Their audience is primed to see all bad press as an attack and not to believe it, so it was easy to direct the anger at the media and Whanau using DARVO.

Jo is right. There are celebrations of getting 9 people elected to council in Concerned Ratepayer Canterbury, local VFF groups and Pseudo-law adjacent Challenging Councils.

👋 They're the ones who spread the rumour about Mayor Tory Whanau in 2023 but they are much, much more. They are a conspiracy theorist group that helped NZ FIrst gain the cooker vote in 2023, led by tobacco and whaling lobbyist Glenn Inwood.

ACT candidates answered the same way in the VFF Council Watch survey. Not open ended questions though. Very much seemed like someone else filled them out for them

But both Andrea and Paula knew who they were getting into bed with. Some of the so-called attacks are holding them and the group accountable for their actions.

I don't trust Tom Hunt. He knows what's going on in Wellington. There were better candidates to talk to about this issue.

This article is important. But the framing is concerning. Paula and Andrea were on the Better Wellington linked Independent Together ticket. BW have been spreading vile attacks on women councillors, including Tory Whanau for years. Doesn't excuse the abuse towards them.

Whether against Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Ghahraman, Ardern, other MPs, Wiles, Bloomfield, & others involved in pandemic response, transgender activists, drag queens, judges, lawyers or academics - effects of doxxing are inherently harmful, & often leads to kinetic violence or vandalism.

Hate to say it but there is a cadre of new Gen-X supporters, pushing the party further right. We're stuck with them.

VFF coordinator Emma Ryburn-Phengsavath (independent) is standing. In '23, Emma started an unvaccinated breast milk charity. She lays out VFF's plan well: "VFF are the 101 freedom fighter's - put another way, we are deliberately appealing to people just waking up to the tyranny."

Westwards' Kevin Murphy is running for local board and is a VFF coordinator. He is extremely active on Telegram. Like all VFF coordinators, they have been using RCR's anti-climate change action documentary Managed out as a way to attract normies to movement, inviting his Westwards mates.

Craig Lord claims not to be a conspiracy theorist yet in 2022 he said "“I will not run around in circles yelling the sky is falling, just because we are told to by the United Nations” while in a September 1 tweet, he said: “I’ll be fighting against 2030 and WEF [World Economic Forum].”"

Westwards also have Allan Geddes. He's shared Brian Tamaki's Freedom's and Rights Coaliton, disinfo spreader The Daily Examiner, a video calling Ardern a "globalist puppet", and a meme calling mask wearers sheep.

Jacob Curran's X shares many anti-immigration posts from "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory promoter William McGimsey, anti-trans activist Corina Shields, Elliot Ikilei, Tommy Robinson, and NZ First. He called to deport academic Mohan Dutta and celebrated Benjamin Doyle's resignation.

Leao Tildsley was a New Conservatives candidate in 2020. She was an anti-mandate agitator and stood for DemocracyNZ in 2023. She is a supporter of Graham Phillips, the first person convicted of sabotage in NZ, for his attack on the electrical grid.

In Auckland, a large group is running under Westwards, led by Cr. Ken Turner. Ken is an RCR favourite, appearing six times. He also signed VFF's CouncilWatch NZ anti-WHO letter, opposing the signing of any pandemic treaties in the future. Ken appeared on NZ First candidate Erika Harvey's podcast

In a 22 interview with Liz Gunn, Hibiscus & Bays local board member Leanne Willis likened New Zealand’s Covid-19 response to Nazi Germany: “for a liberal kind of party that she (Jacinda Ardern) was heading, that it was so draconian and just had all of these remnants of the Holocaust.”

VFF Coordinator Darag Rennie is running under Coast People. Like Jackie Wheeler, Darag organised the Julian Batchelor Stop Co-Governance tour in Orewa. He believes we have been lied to "about diet, climate, covid, NZ history, racial and gender theory, overpopulation" to "divide and conquer."

Pete Marshall stood with conspiracy-peddling Rock The Vote in '22. He posts to AK Liberation Project (Pete Mars), organises pop-ups for VFF and CouncilWatchNZ, and promotes NZ First.

He admits the 2nd COVID inquiry was to take out their political opponents, calling them a "band of evil dwarfs"
