As a retired journalism professor, I believe every newsroom in America must now develop Civil War Protocols: how it will conduct the profession of journalism when Donald Trump declares martial law and systematically ends our democracy. If your newsroom isn't prepared for this, it's rank malpractice.

Seek tranquility. Look for beauty. Connect with nature.

Even if it's for just a brief moment because moments like that carry us through the tough times.

In all the chaos, I would urge folks to remember that a lot of folks now don’t know when their next check will come.

The vast majority are good people who love this nation deeply, and many of them are still working despite not knowing when they’ll be paid

Have compassion.
