Main tasks include programming assignments to maintain the DEMSCORE infrastructure and to prepare the biannual data updates of the infrastructure. The successful candidate will be working with Demscore’s data manager, who is working part time for the project.

Solutions vary from getting access to supercomputers, using other computational infrastructure like #NAISS, and to collaborate more on exchanging knowledge and code through for example #Github, as well as learning about each other’s methods for validity checks and balances.

And how do you handle that your dataset is so big that it crashes the computers? How do you best communicate the complexity of your data and explain the validity in ways that are accessible to non-experts?

It spans from for coding public records to using country experts for interviews or surveys to modelling and forecasting. Despite the differences, there are still several common challenges, like how to deal with measurement units that change, or how to build trusted networks of country experts.
