All serious historical novels are works of speculative fiction, even ones set in the β€˜60s and β€˜70s. These three are absolutely brilliant.

I think the most alarming development of 2025, personally, despite the myriad horrific things going on in the world, was realizing that people I like and whose ideas are interesting to me would find ways to justify continuing to use an app after it started *generating child pornography on demand*.

Inspiring, dramatic, USA Hockey victories for both the men and the women this year. Congratulations to all. But let's be careful of the 1980 comparisons. Back then, we were the good guys, the champions of democracy against a totalitarian USSR. Today, it is, sadly, a very different story.

The U.S. spent $30 billion to ditch textbooks for laptops and tablets: The result is the first generation less cognitively capable than their parents | Fortune Neuroscientist Jared Cooney Horvath said older generations β€œscrewed up” giving students access to so much technology: β€œI genuinely hope Gen Z quickly figures that out and gets mad.”

Now THAT's a headline.

"Never bet against Cameron" has been a a battle cry for a quarter century now, but recently he's been advocating for replacing VFX artists with AI & advocating against a streaming company merging with a studio all to protect his massive budget alien fucking movies, and frankly it's fucking bullshit.

Dear Alberta,
In advance of the budget disaster, Turkish Tylenol, crumbling health care and education, coal mines, book bans, swan hunts, and deep, deep corruption, we would like to you blame immigrants. And Ottawa (always Ottawa).

Yours separate but together,
Premier/Governor/Her Ladyship Smith

This picture is so crazy that if you had this as a scene in a made-for-TV dystopian scifi movie in like 2014 people would switch channels because you’d ruined the suspension of disbelief.

Seems extremely irresponsible to do a fluff piece on someone's nightlife and leave out that they are banned from most clubs for blasting the song 'H*il Hitler' with nazis on a livestream.

Is that why @gqmagazine.bsky.social didn't post it on bluesky?

Yes! More people should be doing this. I see too many progressives still using Substack.

I'm going to actively begin the process of migrating off of Substack to Ghost.

I have a bestseller Substack, in the top 50 for world politics, but I can't justify using this platform.

Nothing should change for my subscribers except possibly those with iOS subscriptions.

I'll keep you posted :)
