Today is 5 years since Jake died. Feels incomprehensible sometimes, and there's points you can't bear the way each day there's more space from a world that held his voice, that there's less of the world that remembers him.

Milk Bar Pie was the first bake I ever really did: an on-a-whim weekend impulse from me and Jake to try baking something we saw on a show and bringing it into work.

It's just a perfect balance of the darker stories of harsh expansion and control, the littler stories of the lives built and eeked out in the country's margins, the strange turns of fate these places often had. And a real appreciation for the sprawling land between.
