Indeed, things we thought we could β€˜take for granted’ or rely on/not have to be worried about losing are slipping through our fingers. I know this always happens, people always feel like this, it ebbs and flows, it intensifies as you get older… but I’m still worried we’re passing points of no return

I remember having several power cut days/afternoons at one school and carrying on just with a wb pen while some colleagues were in a panic about the lack of a PowerPoint. But I also think that sort of adaptability came from lots of years of experiencing what could be adapted in real time

Remember in school talk there’s that β€˜what you permit you promote’ thing? It’s that. If people are so worn out of calling it out, it could look like acceptance, even agreement, even support…

Conformity… control… making it easier to find things to criticise… diversionary tactics… leadership insecurity… All reasons, just not good reasons

I don’t even teach anymore but I’m highly aware that in this post-exam results period, I’m missing the wisdom of Dawn Cox 😟

@evidencebased.education hi all - I remember Stuart writing about teacher burnout and (?) well-being a few years ago… is this something you still work on/speak about/investigate?

Definitely, it’s its own little world where nothing else intrudes. Mine is a 5 min drive away, so not too far to β€˜nip out for half an hour’ whenever the opportunity arises, and it’s about 60% of full size so really manageable

also that surrounding yourself as an insecure person with others who disparage that insecurity while also sharing it isn’t really a supportive learning environment, never mind it isolating a person even further from their relationship goals. Bizarre. Misled by grifters

The things that strike me about this world: β€˜self-help’ is ultimately selfish (I know self-*care* sometimes needs to be) so isn’t a ground on which to build connections with others that require a degree of vulnerability to actually succeed; -
