There are few cities in the world that are great to live in. Canada punches above its weight. At the same time, we need to reduce car culture by making neighbourhoods vibrant and walkable.

Sprawl Is Still Not the Answer A chorus of critics insist that building on undeveloped land is the only way out of the US housing crisis. But the environmental costs of unrestrained growth are overwhelming.

If US cities keep sprawling at the rate they did from 2001-2016, roughly 18 million acres of farmland would be lost by 2040 — or an area about the size of South Carolina.

Sprawl, like we built in the past, is not the answer to the housing crisis.
