That was my first thought. It makes sense not to announce “the piece of plastic in my hand is worth 50 bucks” to randos on a train platform.

It’s a strange social contract. We let randos operate heavy machinery on public streets, and just accept that a certain amount of property damage, injury and death will ensue. If drivers were held accountable for their actions, few would dare sit behind the wheel.
