The problem with #rstats is portability. Shit like `df$x` has to be converted to `df€x` in Europe and `dfΒ£x` in the UK but nobody talks about this.

I've been working on a history of the tidyverse for an upcoming special issue of the Australia/New Zealand Journal of Statistics celebrating 25 years of R. I'd love to get your feedback! What have I missed?

A new story map feature is coming to the next release of the #rstats {mapgl} package!

You'll be able to trigger Shiny events on page scroll; watch in the video how "fly-to" effects and time-of-day adjustments are made as the user progresses through the story.

Possibly useful little #Rstats trick:

edit(names(iris))

will create a popup with the R code for the character vector containing the column names of your data frame that you can copy and paste, e.g.

c("Sepal.Length", "Sepal.Width", "Petal.Length", "Petal.Width", "Species")

Of course you can always use {leaflet}, but here the huuuuge advantage is that you use your ggplot directly, so no new syntax, reuse your normal/final figure.
See davidgohel.github.io/ggiraph/ for more.

(the map displays children as % of population in each neightbourhood of #Geneva)

Distraction from grading/writing work today is figuring out how to access ERA5 climate data from it's online Zarr repository. I'm an R person, but this is doable in RStudio with just one small Python code chunk (see below).

People are afraid of ChatGPT leaping to sentience, but that's clearly just marketing hype. It's not even good at what it's supposed to be good at.

DuckDB though? I'm waiting for the time travelers to come back and try to stop it before it's too late.
