Yes, resisting a cruel and stupid govt policy requires a multi-pronged approach. It meets resistance at every step. You fight on every front and pitch in however and whenever you can.

It’s also keeping an important issue in the spotlight when a significant percentage of electeds and others either can’t or won’t pay attention. If it’s an election season all the better: the media has to pay attention. He’s doing his job as a candidate and voice for progressive change.

So speaking out, or taking any action that doesn’t get an instant result is worthless? So the civil rights advocates were bullshit artists? Did the Voting Rights Act happen spontaneously? Didn’t the years of protests (aka virtue signaling, to you) have something to do with it?

Advocating for people is not virtue signaling. It’s advocating for people. Erecting a sign in your yard about it, while not taking action, is virtue signaling. See also: In this house we believe…etc etc.

Trump said he’d lower prices throughout the campaign. Then took it back within days of winning the election. Literally said, There’s not much I can do about that. Unsurprisingly, the media that gave so much attention to his promises didn’t notice him saying he had no intention of fulfilling them.

What's that song on "Off the Ground" where the chorus goes "...I feel love for you tonight!" which is more like what an AI program would spit out to illustrate a moment of intense passion than what an actual human would say. So give Paul credit, he was 30 years ahead of the AI game.

FITD became a committee project when he lost faith in the Elvis Costello collab...so much of which was so terrific it continues to boggle the mind. I suspect Paul felt he'd be damned if an EC project was successful (he needs another John!) and also if it wasn't (even a new John couldn't save him).

I know it's mean to tell people not to love the things they love. But my training as a critic (arrogance) compels me to share the truths that rattle out of my brain. So. "Only Love Remains" is intolerable. As was its predecessor, "Through Our Love," and its eventual successor, "Motor of Love."

...I mean, honestly. "Move Over, Busker"? I keep wanting to fall for "Stranglehold," but it's like a hollow Easter bunny. I take a big bite and it's full of nothing. Your mileage may vary. But to my ears, he's building huge sonic structures to hide the fact he has nothing substantive inside.

Ehhh I tried to love "Press to Play" like I love so much of Paul's work but to my ears those cool sonic textures are largely in the service of songs that don't rise to his standard. And the one song I do love, "Feel the Sun," is a fragment he stapled to the way-less-interesting "Good Times Coming."
