I would also recommend fiction like Adrian McKinty’s Belfast Noir series, beginning with The Cold, Cold Ground. Also: this www.theguardian.com/books/2019/j...
20.11.2025 06:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0“For nearly two months, Oregon has fought in federal court to stop an unlawful effort to deploy military troops onto the streets of Portland. We knew then what this decision shows now — these deployments should never have happened in the first place. “We’re grateful the federal government is finally doing the right thing and sending the Oregon Guard members home, where they belong, with their families and communities in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. This outcome is a direct result of Oregon standing up, defending our state, and insisting that the rule of law still matters.”
What happened: On November 7, the district court ruled in favor of Oregon: National Guard troops cannot be deployed on the streets of Portland unnecessarily. However, some Oregon and California National Guard troops remained federalized (under control of the president, rather than Governor Kotek). Last weekend, all remaining California National Guard troops in Oregon - and 100 of the 200 Oregon National Guard troops - were sent home. Today, Governor Kotek confirmed that the remaining 100 Oregon National Guard troops will be sent home as well. This is a win for Oregon’s sovereignty and the rule of law.
In a win for Oregon, the federal government will begin demobilizing the remaining 100 National Guard troops in Oregon by Friday.

Is this a stinkhorn egg?
Could it be something ejected from a large animal’s stomach?

this post from @marisakabas.bsky.social, and this graf in particular, is so spot on and is honestly like something that's way too relevant for sports journalism as a microcosm of the entire industry. www.thehandbasket.co/p/moral-rot-...

Has anyone figured out how to actually turn off copilot from Word on Mac? I thought I turned it off, but every time I reopen Word it's back fucking on. All the instructions I've found say to do Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools > Copilot, but Copilot is no longer listed under preferences.
