10. The median age of professionals in this field is 55/60, they're all retiring as we speak, and they're desperate for talent.

11. There is no real pipeline to this field, everyone in it kind of shows up there by accident, so it's not a legible opportunity many consider.

This is the field I myself went into (although I work for a non profit rather than a local government), and I've found it quite rewarding.

All that said, please give me feedback on this because it sounds like a bit of a weird idea and I'd like to work out the kinks before I go full bore on this.

8. Property tax assessment is a rare profit center in local government, another reason I expect it to stick around.

9. You'd be able to do real good! Accurate, consistent, and fair property assessments are an essential plank in local government policy.

6. These jobs have high rates of retention, it's something you could do for the rest of your life.

7. Yes AI is coming, but also I expect these jobs to stick around because AI is all about data quality and these are the people who collect the data and that won't go away.

4. Pay is not astounding, but it's not like gamedev pay was super amazing either.

5. You will lack appraisal credentials, but you'd be more than qualified for technical positions which often don't require them, or require the easiest/fastest ones to pick up.

3. They are in desperate need of people with GIS/technical skills.

If you don't have GIS experience, but you have gamdev experience, you could pick it up real quick. Doing math in 2D geospatial context + a bit of domain knowledge you can read up on.

Would like some feedback on this thought:
