CHICAGO, IL (August 18, 2025) - State Representative Christina Morales (D-Houston) issued the following statement: “When Texas House Democrats first left the state, I was clear - I am in this fight for the long run and am committed to using every tool at our disposal to fight the ‘gerrymandering on steroids.’ That has not changed. I represent communities that these racist maps are targeting — historic Latino neighborhoods like Lindale Park, Magnolia Park, Near Northside, Park Place, and the East End. Our Black and Brown communities — my community — are being chopped apart to silence our voices and hand power to Donald Trump. I will not be complicit in this rigged redistricting scheme. Today, some of my colleagues chose to return to the House Floor. I respect them deeply, but that choice would not reflect my commitment to the people I represent. My community sent me here to fight for fair representation, and I will continue to do so from outside the Capitol. I will stand firm against these illegal, racially discriminatory maps in the courts, in our communities, and at the ballot box.
