08.10.2025 00:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The title and premise is cheesy, but there's some great video of the two-phase wind-up and pitch dispersal mechanism ferns use.
07.10.2025 23:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Low quality image of a fern sorus (species unknown). The image is an overlay of a black and white brightfield image of the leaf lamina and bright green fluorescence within the sorus. The green straplike semicircles are part of the spore dispersal system that literally cocks and throws them like a baseball pitcher, and are autofluorescent due to presence of the polymer sporopollenin.
Missing a reagent today when my undergrads came in, so instead of the plan, I taught them how to do leaf peels to measure guard cells and also showed them how to use the EVOS fluorescence microscope.
And anyway, that's how my students learned that the annulus on fern spores is autofluorescent. π
See? I'm taking this as a second.
All in favor?
All opposed?
Excellent. Motion carries!

Saw this just now, and was curious if you had a take. Do you juvenile therapods would chew on their own tails? Would other dinosaurs?

b) The several hundred thousand currently unpaid workers in the DMV are all supposed to go...where, exactly?
This maybe wasn't something you needed to opine on, Daulfus.
And yes, Federal workers will get back pay. A lot on contractors may not.
And besides, how many of you work where your boss can just unilaterally decide to pay you with an IOU?

Yup! My grandparents were out of the tobacco game before I showed up, but they (like many small farmers) sold their allotment to neighbors who still grew it. My dad just sold off the last of his cattle this past spring and finally fully retired!
