In apparent violation of public meeting rules, Mayor Andy Fillmore hosted secret meeting with councillors and Construction Association of Nova Scotia to talk regional plan - Halifax Examiner Coun. Sam Austin expressed concerns with that meeting, saying while he thought the intentions were "good," he asked if the invitation was the "epitome of a backroom meeting?"

Absurd expectations and figuring out I'm not a machine: My week-long writing retreat - Halifax Examiner Why was I leaving our old house overlooking the Atlantic to go write for a week in another old house overlooking the Atlantic?

My @halifaxexaminer.ca morning file: I went on a solo writing retreat and didn't get everything I wanted done. But it was worth it, and I learned a few important things. Also, I write about Hard Core Logo.

Someone I know got pulled over multiple times for driving too slowly. Cops assumed she was drunk and being overly cautious. She was like, No! I'm just a careful driver! I have my kids in the back!

If you're looking for something in your documents, type "documents: SEARCH TERM" and that will do it.

Because most of the onions I buy here are rotten when I cut into them, I decided to ferment the bag of good ones I just snagged. They’re at the bottom of a closet in my bedroom and ngl my room smells like it has body odour. 5 or 6 days and I’ll be able to cap them and put them in the fridge.

Pretty much nothing happens for 14 hours, until a 10-year-old starts leading a planetary invasion force. And we learn there are Jews in the Dune universe.

I don't know why I am putting myself through this, but I am down to 2 1/2 hours to go on the Chapterhouse: Dune audio book. (Nearly 17 hours total.)

And September 12 in Montreal. I considered buying tickets, but the cheapest ones were over $180. But that's like, OK, I'm travelling to Montreal in September.

Semitruck full of live chickens crashes on I-5 When a semitruck carrying live birds crashed at Mounts Road near DuPont, crews raced to clear the clucking wreckage.

They really tortured this piece to include every chicken or egg related pun they could think of:

Our local museum of natural history has a centenarian tortoise bought in Florida in 1942. He is a beloved local character, and staff take him out for walks on the lawn. There is a conspiracy theory that the original tortoise died and was replaced several years ago.

There had been several news stories about seniors who could no longer afford to live in homes that had been in their families for decades, as I recall, and it was becoming a political issue. A minister had said they should be happy their properties were now worth more, which came off as insensitive.
