I really hope that *someone* follows the money here. I believe this would be very illuminating.

The key is to hold both conflicting viewpoints simultaneously. It doesn’t really help in any material way, but embracing the absurd contradictions at least helps acclimate oneself to a chaotic and indifferent universe. 🦄🌈🫠

It’s really no different than what started this pointless thread. R’s don’t engage in the process in good faith (e.g., honesty re: intention or expected outcomes).

I’ve presented even-handed comments here (imo). What do you, @muchachoburacho.bsky.social, suggest would have been a more productive posture for the dems to take? More importantly, what would be a more productive posture moving forward?

As this administration continues to do everything it can to eviscerate the government and cement a position for the U.S. as a global pariah state, we may look back with more admiration for Rep. Al Green and his cane than for any color coordinated outfits or mild objections glued to popsicle sticks.

No one told me, nor did I ever say, that principled protest or any other direct action would change Trump’s behavior in any meaningful way. Civil disobedience can play a role in shaping the discourse, and it should be coupled with a larger strategy that uses traditional political mechanisms.

A focus on more “kitchen table issues” like egg prices is weak sauce in the face of the wholesale shredding of legislatively enacted public programs via executive fiat and illegal overreach by Trump and co. How would you suggest they counter a malevolent carnival barker?

I am not moved to believe that Trump and his enablers are engaging politics and civil discourse with good faith or intellectual honesty. I would love to see evidence to the contrary, if you have some to share!

But modulating to make room for the not-so-crypto-fascist works and actions of Trump, Musk, and their acolytes? That’s gonna be a hard sell, so whatcha got?

We have all become too siloed in our information ecosystems, shunning people and ideas that threaten to undercut the premises upon which our precariously constructed micro-realities are built. I’m certainly guilty of this, though I try to keep this hazardous thumb-sucking myopia in check.

I very much give a shit about winning elections. But what to do when the words or actions of actions of our elected officials so patently contradict the spirit and, increasingly, the letter of the law?

What I take from the OP sharing this old NY Times article is that one should never trust a fascist dictatorial regime, even if they are acting friendly. The snake will eventually bite. It’s their nature.

What point are you trying to make? By 1935 the Reichstag had been dissolved, Hitler had assume dictatorial control, and the systematic oppression of Jews and other minority groups by the Nazi regime was already underway.

The current U.S. pres. admin. and R’s in congress should be treated as pariahs on all domestic and int’l stages. They are so dangerous, so virulently toxic, that anything besides complete exclusion carries far too much risk. You can be dissatisfied with the status quo without being their accomplice.

Right now is the only game in town.
