i have no doubt that senator van hollen was genuinely concerned for the safety and welfare of abrego garcia BUT ALSO this is what i'm talking about when i say POLITICAL AMBITION. van hollen may well make himself a household name and nationally recognized political figure with this move

I read a lot of books last year, and some of my favorites had to do with the end of the world. A lot has changed (i.e. gotten even worse) in the real world from when I first started drafting this. The best fiction makes us grapple with tough questions, which I hope all these books will for you!

Books To Read At The End Of The World
A glance into some of my 2024 reads that make you grapple with humanity, climate, and the future
A long time coming, finally published my latest Substack post!! The world is a dumpster fire but I remain steadfast in my belief that reading good books can help us process our thoughts and feelings

People are disappointed that the guy was just doing it for weirdo reasons and not because of class consciousness but the class consciousness was literally the friends we made along the way. It was everyone in america saying that dickhead deserved it. It was us all along.

I started the spear cuts through water recently and am itching to get back to it! Focusing on shorter books right now to reach my book goal for the year though
If you havenβt read it, highly recommend jimenezβs other novel, the vanishing birds!!

Definitely like it! I feel like a lot of contemporary romance βseriesβ are interconnected/companions and not actual sequels, and itβs fun when the other characters make cameos. I will say that personally I still like to read them in order even though you donβt have to

I love the public library, and I regularly volunteer and annually donate to my cityβs foundation.. Iβm super grateful and privileged to have access to such a well funded library. Are there any library systems people want to shoutout in need of funding for #givingtuesday?

Book Mammoths at the Gate by Nghi Vo held up in front of a pair of patterned pants, with an airport lounge as the background
The holiday time reading begins!! Started this at the airport before my red eye flight. Going to be a marathon for the next five weeks as I try to read nine more books to reach my reading goal.
Whatβs everyone reading for the end of the year?

The Singing Hills Cycle is all about storytelling, the creation of myths, the fluid nature of reality as it is relayed and remembered. A great novella series to sink your teeth into

Out of the three Iβve read so far, this one might be the easiest to jump into. The story is pretty straightforward, the action is consistent, and itβs actually the shortest at not quite 100 pages

Novella Into the Riverlands by Nghi Vo standing upright on a table, with a nondescript background
First book of the weekend is Into the Riverlands, the third installment of the Singing Hills Cycle series. I think this is my favorite so far!! Legendary martial arts talents, characters who are much more than they seem, and a shadowy crew of bandits wrecking havoc πͺππ #singinghills #nghivo

such a creative character!! hoping to see more of ART in the other novellas :))

Definitely the best! Though tbh I donβt read that much sci fi with robots so they donβt have much competition for me haha

I need to get the rest of the series from the library!! I only own System Collapse, which is the newest one
23.11.2024 05:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
World building has to happen faster, tighter, and I think that's not my preference. It's been almost two years since I read All Systems Red, so I wonder how much my experience will improve as I read more in this series, in hopefully quicker succession, and can benefit from less needed ramp up
22.11.2024 20:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
I'm always surprised by how long it takes me to read novellas and shorter books.
This was barely over 150 pages, and took me over a week of reading some dozen of pages a day to finish.
Interestingly, the pacing required in novellas almost makes it harder for me to read for longer periods of time!!

Just finished Artificial
Condition, the second novella in The Murderbot Diaries! It was a fun adventure back with Murderbot where we get to see them reluctantly befriend an artificial intelligence (ART) and a new band of humans #booksky #murderbot
