Best bird of the year in Devon yesterday as it flew past us 😂

Dawlish Warren over this mornings high tide - 5 Common Terns (4 adults), c100 Sandwich Terns, juv YLGull, Sanderling, Greenshank, 3 Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel, 2 Bar Tailed Godwits, 24 Med Gulls and the highlight a yellow/green budgerigar!

The male Woodchat Shrike found this morning by Stephen E still c1130am at Greenland Lake, Dawlish Warren and showing well at times - the first twitchable Devon Woodchat for 5 years- also my 5th at Dawlish Warren and ridiculously my 27th in Devon over the years! @warrenbirding.bsky.social

Blyths Reed Warbler at a very wet Berry Head early this morning-another superb find by @clennonvalley.bsky.social whilst sea watching ! ranging c100 yards by the path to the the end of the quarry - others report the bird still present c230pm-only the 4th Devon mainland record-all in the last 9 years

Dartmoor in a blustery wind this morning - 2 Spotted Flycatchers (my first of the year), male Pied Fly, 2 Cuckoo, 2 Whinchat, 5 Wheatears, Willow Warbler

2 Garganey still at South Huish Marsh 720pm and showing well - also 4 Whimbrel on beach, 20 House Martins, Reed Warbler

Short video of the Temmincks Stint at Exminster Marsh this evening - amazingly only the 2nd Temmincks in Devon in the last ten years ! With the only other one being on the same pool a year ago !

A real Devon rarity nowadays - a Turtle Dove in a private field off Bridge Road,Churston near Brixham - found earlier by Josh M and still present 235pm when flew up out of field and landed in a bush out of sight- viewed from gateway on road

4 Red Kites circling over Torquay viewed from Chelston heading north 410-415pm

A Red Kite seen from 422pm-430pm over Torquay airspace and becomes the 20th Red Kite seen from the house in the last 6 years- the Kite circled for over 5 mins before heading off north - an Excellant pick up and prompt call by- @robmurphy.bsky.social - also 2 Swifts

Fantastic day at Exminster Marsh-1120-1630- male Whinchat north of access road with 26! Wheatears from 2pm, 2 Hobby from 3pm, Spoonbill, Wood Sand from 1530, Common Sand, 8 Whimbrel, 2 Whitethroat, 20 Swifts, 20 Cattle Egrets, Reed and Sedge Warblers - nearby Yellowhammer Ideford Common

Adult Night Heron at Slapton this evening - found yesterday by @startbirder.bsky.social coincidently on exactly the same date and on exactly the same branch as the first summer bird 4 years ago 9/4/21 (and then a second summer bird from 29/4/22)

The adult Night Heron showing very well at Slapton Bridge 710pm-740pm at least-in exactly the same place as the previous ones in 21 and 22- could it be the same one back for a 5th spring ? Also the adult Purple Heron seen in flight over the Higher Ley at 1840pm and 1934pm

More excitement in Torbay - the Hoopoe still at Berry Head c1105am and showing very well feeding undisturbed in the northern fort (on the grass slope to the left opposite the cafe)- an exciting early morning find by @clennonvalley.bsky.social
