It's so weird how LLMs know so much about things I don't know anything about, and yet make fundamental and basic errors about things I do know anything about. Oh well, I'm sure that's a coincidence.

I would second The Botanic Gardens especially given the weather. There’s a gate into the adjoining cemetery which is nice and peaceful and has interesting Victorian tombs. And from there a gate to Prospect Square and the exemplar pub, The Gravediggers.

it’s important to find time in your day to just switch your mind off and do nothing. it might be first thing in the morning, it might be last thing at night, or - and this is surprisingly popular - it might be when you get to the ticket barriers at waterloo. just take care of yourself, guys.

Weirdly AI is making me a more productive writer because any time I get stuck, or run out of momentum on a document, I ask myself "What are you going to do, Richy? Ask the machine for help?" and then I'm suddenly fueled by sufficient spite to keep going.

Alas! It is the 83rd anniversary of the tragically early demise of John Romulus Brinkley, the man who became famous for his pioneering medical work: giving people implants of goats’ bollocks

Odd this day 10 May 1809

It’s the 216th anniversary of Napoleon Bonaparte firing cannonballs at Joseph Haydn. The composer survived, but died at the end of the month β€” at which point someone stole his head, and he was only reunited with it in 1954

An old article with a picture of a Pope and the headline RETURN OF THE POPE
His Holiness the Pope has been returned safely to the Vatican following his escape from the Apostolic Palace late last week. God's representative on earth slipped away while being walked by a
Cardinal last Thursday night and had
been missing for six days.
β€œHis Holiness likes to have a shit last
thing at night,” said Vatican Secretary
of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
β€œWe usually send Cardinal Vincenzo
out with him, but he was a little under
the weather, so he had to ask one of the
new cardinals to go. Unfortunately, he
wasn’t up to the job.”
Pope Francis was last seen racing
off through St Peter’s Square in
pursuit of some pigeons, and led
Vatican officials a merry dance in
the following days, with reported
sightings as far afield as Bologna
and Sorrento.
Cardinal Bertone spent the day
after the disappearance pinning up
photocopied β€˜MISSING’ posters on
lampposts around Rome, and sharing
pictures of the missing pontiff on
Facebook

β€œIt’s been really hard on the
Cardinal,” said a Vatican source.
β€œHe’s not a young man, and this has
really taken it out of him. Seeing him
on the back step of St Peter’s Basilica
last thing every night, rattling a fork
inside a tin of communion wafers, it
was heartbreaking.”
It is believed that in desperation
the Vatican called in professional
trackers, who set a number of traps
in and around the city state, each one
baited with an unshriven soul.
β€œWe came down this morning
and one of the traps was shut,”
said Cardinal Bertone. β€œThere was
the most tremendous banging and
scratching coming from inside it, so we
knew immediately it was the Pope.”
The bedraggled pontiff was
immediately examined by top
theologians, who reported that he
was none the worse for his ordeal,
although he appeared to have been in
a few fights.

One frame cartoon. Big heading reads: 'TEEN WOLF' A group of wolves in the mountains under a full moon. They're enthusiastically howling, big shadows cast by the moonlight. Another wolf, with a mop of greasy hair, has his back to the others, looking at his mobile. He is being addressed: "The Moon! The Moon! Look at the Moon!" and his reply is "meh"
