I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them

I didn't know they'd made a film of that. SUCH a good play.

Sad times! Was this THE almanac in Britain? I grew up in Canada and I think there were a few different ones (my parents always bought one brand) and then I moved to Britain at a point where almanac purchasing wasn't a thing anymore...

Do they still make almanacs? God I loved those things. Just looking up endless statistics and flags!

We’re only 2/3 the way through the year @gojauntly.bsky.social – gave me a bit of a panic! There are still 4 months left!

Labour MP spreading the blatant lie that that asylum seekers are being treated to pleasurable hotel stays, rather than the reality which is that they're converted to functional, cramped dormitories. Of course they haven't paid. They aren't even allowed to work.

The fact that the DBS update services web address still includes "CRB Checks" in it, despite the fact they haven't been called that in over 10 years is hilarious to me.

There's no way the Guardian image database (I used to work for them – I've been down all sorts of tangents with that thing), didn't have a picture of the Elizabeth Line!

This is the most suburban Canadian theatre-kid thing I've seen in years. I can literally picture all my high school friends making a much less slick version of this video in 2005 and enjoying it so much! :)

In London over the next few months?Drop by 130 Fenchurch Street on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays to see a great photo exhibition of Bernice Mulenga's portraits & images of the gardens & gardeners of TfL. The people in them are all creating amazing spaces with constraints. Thanks National Trust!

Five survivors of Rotherham grooming gangs say they were also raped by police officers Three former South Yorkshire police officers arrested in investigation into claims by the women, as young as 12 at the time

God, the number of people who were willing to believe that the South Yorkshire police were too woke to prosecute sexual abuse cases, when in fact the police force was itself an instrument of patriarchal sexual violence. It’s like a case study in the worst excesses of the British press.

Worcestershire park has duck vending machine installed by charity The machine at Vines Park in Droitwich Spa will cost Β£1 to use, with 10% of profits going to local wildlife charity.

Feeling this news story needed sharper and more accurate headlining, as I'm (possibly) not the only person disappointed that you don't get a duck for a quid.

No, I saw that – his example of a fizzy drink isn't the point I'm making. It just makes no sense. People's bodies don't react the same to just losing about 200 calories per day. I suspect this was from a projection of future people, it would make no sense for existing people.

'I was shocked': Melbourne man's 'unbelievable' find after buying house Daniel Xu has loved trains since he was a child. In a surprising twist of fate, he now lives above an extensive hobby train network set.

Here’s something delightful. New homeowners in Melbourne found an extensive model train setup under the floor after they move in.

If people cut out one fizzy drink a day we'd halve obesity in this country? Yeah, that's definitely how the human body works, Wes.

β€˜Yuck factor’: eating insects rather than meat to help the planet is failing, study finds People are disgusted by the idea of eating bugs despite their lighter planetary cost compared to traditional livestock

No shit. It's a master work of big oil propaganda that the climate actions we often hear about are like "you should eat bugs!"* instead of "elected leaders need to put on their big kid pants and say NO to fossil fuel, which is the biggest driver of global warming, and which we can replace!"
